''This Sporting Life'' was a culturally iconic Triple J radio comedy programme, created by award-winning actor-writer-comedians John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver, who performed as their characters Roy and HG. Broadcast from 1986 to 2008, it was one of the longest-running, most popular and most successful radio comedy programmes of the television era in Australia. Undoubtedly the longest-running show in Triple J's programming history, it commanded a large and dedicated nationwide audience throughout its 22-year run. The title ''This Sporting Life'' was taken from the novel and 1963 film of the same name. ''This Sporting Life'' was added to the National Film and Sound Archive's Sounds of Australia registry in 2013. Triple J
Triple J (stylised in all lowercase) is a government-funded, national Australian Radio in Australia, radio station intended to appeal to listeners of alternative music, which began broadcasting in January 1975. The station also places a greater emphasis on broadcasting music of Australia, Australian content compared to commercial stations. Triple J is a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. History 1970s: Launch and early years 2JJ commenced broadcasting at 11:00 am, Sunday 19 January 1975, at 1540 Hertz, kHz (which switched to 1539Hertz, kHz in 1978) on the AM radio, AM band. Chris Taylor (comedian)
Christopher Thornton Taylor (born 15 July 1974) is an Australian comedy writer, performer and broadcaster from Sydney. As a member of The Chaser, he is best known for co-writing and appearing on satirical ABC Television shows ''CNNNN'' (2002–2003) and '' The Chaser's War on Everything'' (2006 – July 2009). He formerly co-hosted the drive radio show '' Today Today'' (2004–05) on Triple J with fellow Chaser member Craig Reucassel, and in 2007, he wrote the musical comedy '' Dead Caesar''. Taylor also hosted the mini documentary series 'Australia's Heritage: National Treasures'. In 2010, with his Chaser colleague Andrew Hansen, Taylor made a musical comedy series for Triple J titled ''The Blow Parade'', which became the number one podcast in the country, and won the 2010 ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release. Bill Leak
Desmond Robert "Bill" Leak (9 January 1956 – 10 March 2017) was an Australian editorial cartoonist, caricaturist and portraitist. Raised in Condobolin and Beacon Hill, Sydney, Leak attended Julian Ashton Art School during the 1970s. His cartoons were first published in 1983 in '' The Bulletin'' and after he drew for ''The Sydney Morning Herald'' until 1994, when he was recruited by News Limited to contribute to '' The Daily Telegraph-Mirror'' and later to ''The Australian''. As an artist and illustrator, Leak was acclaimed by journalist Peter FitzSimons as "colossally talented, driven, and passionate for his craft". Leak entered paintings into the Archibald on several occasions, having won the People's Choice Award in 1994 for his portrait of Malcolm Turnbull and the Packing Room Prize twice, in 1997 and 2000 for his portraits of Tex Perkins and Sir Les Patterson respectively. Paul Murphy (Australian Journalist)
Paul Murphy (1942 or 1943 – 20 October 2020) was an Australian political journalist and radio and television presenter. Career He presented the ABC's afternoon radio current affairs program ''PM (Australian radio program), PM'' for a decade from 1983 to 1993. Among his favourite moments on the program during his time there was the coverage of the final caucus showdown between Bob Hawke and Paul Keating. In the 1994 Australia Day Honours Murphy was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for "service to public broadcasting and to journalism". In 2000, he was awarded the Walkley Award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism. Murphy died from cancer on 20 October 2020, aged 77. Alan Belford Jones AO (born 13 April 1941 or 1943) is an Australian former radio broadcaster. He is a former coach of the Australia national rugby union team and rugby league coach and administrator. He has worked as a school teacher, a speech writer in the office of the Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, and in musical theatre. Daewoo Nubira is a compact car which was produced by the South Korean automaker Daewoo from 1997 to 2002 as a 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback and a 5-door station wagon. Development The Daewoo Nubira (J100 platform) was released in 1997 reflecting Daewoo's new found design and manufacturing process. Production took under 30 months by ex-Porsche and BMW engineering chief Dr. Ulrich Bez (later of Aston Martin), with Daewoo's growing in-house R&D network in Korea, Worthing and Munich collaborating with the world's best engineering consultancies. Paul Sironen
Paul Sironen (born 23 May 1965) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer of Finnish descent who was a prominent Second-row forward for the Balmain Tigers during the late 1980s, and early 1990s. Stan Jurd, also known by the nickname of "Plunket", is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He played for the North Sydney Bears and Parramatta Eels in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Jurd primarily played in the front-row.
