''This Sheltering Night'' is the fourth studio album released by experimental metal band Starkweather. The album was released on May 25, 2010 through Deathwish Inc. The album is the result of several studio sessions, featuring some reworked tracks from Starkweather's recording sessions for their 2005 album ''Croatoan''. The opening track "Epiphany" dates back to live performances in the late 1990s. ''This Sheltering Night'' was completed in 2008, however Starkweather had to wait til 2010 to terminate their contract with Candlelight Records before they could switch to their current label Deathwish Inc and finally release the album. This album is the first Starkweather recording with bassist Vincent Rosa, and features extensive lead guitar work by frequent collaborator Bill Molchanow as well as soundscape interludes by producer Oktopus (Alap Momin from Dälek) and Liz Jacobs (Sophia Perennis). Starkweather (band)
Starkweather is an American metal band from Philadelphia, formed in 1989. They have a complex experimental metal sound often including use of dissonance, intricate tempo changes and avant-garde sensibilities. Starkweather helped pioneer the hardcore punk/ heavy metal crossover sound that would later be known as "metalcore", as well as being a major influence on the mathcore subgenre. They have influenced many of today's top selling hardcore/metal bands such as Converge, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon and Coalesce among many others. Kayo Dot is an American avant-garde metal group. Formed in 2003 by Toby Driver after the break-up of ''maudlin of the Well'', they released their debut album ''Choirs of the Eye'' on John Zorn's Tzadik Records that same year. Dälek () (stylized in all lowercase) is an American experimental hip hop group formed in Newark, New Jersey in 1998. The group's current lineup consists of MC dälek (vocals and producer) and Mike Manteca (aka Mike Mare) (electronics and producer). Alap Momin
Alap Aman Momin (born 25 June 1974), professionally known as Alap Momin and Oktopus is an American musician, composer and producer. He is a former member of Dälek and MRC Riddims. Career Alap Aman Momin was born to Indian parents and grew up in New Jersey. From a young age, Momin developed an interest in music and took up playing guitar at the age of 12 and began to join local bands. Gradually his interest shifted to engineering and he started his first recording studio in 1993 in his parents' basement in Parsippany, New Jersey.
