''This Is a Recording'' contains demos from the years 1994–1997. It is out of print, and Kevin Moore has publicly said that there will be no reprint. Track listing All music and lyrics by Kevin Moore, except "The Fucking Mouse" lyrics by Todd Farrington. Song information "Hay Day. May Day. Help", "Roll Away The Stone", "Nora", "Shallow" and "Hollow" are the remastered versions of songs previously released on Moore's demo tape titled ''Music Meant to Be Heard'', which was distributed through Dream Theater fan clubs in 1995. "Hay Day. May Day. Help" was titled "Normal Words" on the original demo. "Wednesday The Sky" is musically an early version of the song "S.O.S" from Chroma Key's first album ''Dead Air for Radios'', although lyrically it's completely different. "On The Page" (Track 6), "S.O.S" and "The Fucking Mouse" are the early versions of the songs (the latter being re-titled to "Mouse (Now Watch What Happens)") from ''Dead Air for Radios''. Kevin Moore
Kevin Moore (born May 26, 1967) is an American keyboardist, composer, and founder of the Chroma Key music project. He is also a former member of the American progressive metal/rock band Dream Theater, co-founder of the progressive rock supergroup O.S.I., and a composer of film soundtracks. Throughout his career, he has become known for his emotional music and lyrics, nomadic lifestyle and use of spoken word samples. Moore started his music career in progressive metal band Dream Theater. He contributed music and lyrics to the band's first three studio albums, but left the band during the mixing process of ''Awake'' to pursue his own musical interests. Starting with 1998's ''Dead Air for Radios'', he has released electronica, ambient music through his solo project Chroma Key. Moore has guested on several albums, including three Fates Warning albums. Dream Theater
Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy while they attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. They subsequently dropped out of their studies to concentrate further on the band that would eventually become Dream Theater. Their current lineup consists of Petrucci, Myung, vocalist James LaBrie, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Mike Mangini. Chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a visual-effects and post-production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on colour hues ( chroma range). The technique has been used in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video – particularly the newscasting, motion picture, and video game industries. A colour range in the foreground footage is made transparent, allowing separately filmed background footage or a static image to be inserted into the scene. ''Dead Air for Radios'' studio album by Kevin Moore, under the musical moniker Chroma Key. It was released through Fight Evil Records on December 16, 1998. The album was recorded by Steve Tushar at Bill's Place Rehearsal Studio in Hollywood, mixed by both Steve Tushar and Kevin Moore with final mastering by Eddy Schreyer. Since its release the album has sold around 10,000 copies. Themes The voice of a woman repeating words and numbers in German during "Even the Waves" is from a famous numbers station broadcast on shortwave frequencies. "S.O.S." was one of the first songs Moore wrote for the album. The spoken sample is of a German man Moore met in Santa Fe who described his experiences of hitch-hiking from LA to Santa Fe. Answering Machine
An answering machine, answerphone or message machine, also known as telephone messaging machine (or TAM) in the UK and some Commonwealth countries, ansaphone or ansafone (from a trade name), or telephone answering device (TAD), was used for answering telephones and recording callers' messages. If a phone rings a number of times predetermined by the phone's owner, and nobody is present to answer the incoming call, the answering machine will activate and play either a generic announcement or the voice of the person being called announcing that nobody is able to come to the phone at the moment. Steve Tushar is an American Latin Grammy nominated record producer/remixer and musician. He has been a keyboardist, remixer, programmer and producer for metal band Fear Factory, record producer for Beto Cuevas and Chroma Key, and keyboard player for the metal/industrial act 16 Volt. Tushar has also done remixes for Korn, Puddle of Mudd and Megadeth, among others.
