The Thirrë-Kalimash Tunnel is a highway tunnel in Thirrë, Albania Albania ( ; sq, Shqipëri or ), or , also or . officially the Republic of Albania ( sq, Republika e Shqipërisë), is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is located on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas within the Mediterranean Sea and shares ... under the A1 Albania–Kosovo Highway. It is part of the South-East European Route 7. The tunnel is of great importance and together with the highway have reduced the travel duration between Tirana and Kosovo border from 8 hours to 3 hours, with an estimated speed of 80–110 km/h. It also boosted tourism in Albania and deepened the cultural and economic exchanges between Albania and Kosovo. The structure is 5490 m long, making it the longest tunnel in Albania. Mirditë
Mirditë ( sq-definite, Mirdita) is a municipality in Lezhë County, northwestern Albania. It was created in 2015 by the merger of the former municipalities Fan, Kaçinar, Kthellë, Orosh, Rrëshen, Rubik and Selitë. The seat of the municipality is the town Rrëshen. The total population is 22,103 (2011 census), in a total area of 870.26 km2. It is coterminous with the former Mirditë District. The municipality is located within the wider region of Mirdita whose territory is synonymous with the historic Albanian tribe of the same name. During the time of Ottoman rule, Mirdita, along with the surrounding tribal regions, obtained a status of autonomy from the Ottomans and managed to preserve their Roman Catholic faith.
