Third Tagus Crossing
The Third Tagus Crossing (; commonly abbreviated as TTT) is a project for a road-rail crossing over the Tagus River, with the aim of connecting the city of Lisbon, on the north bank, to the peninsula of Setúbal on the south bank. It is part of the construction of the new Lisbon-Madrid and Lisbon-Seville high-speed railway line ("RAVE"). Characteristics The crossing would link the localities of Chelas, on the north bank, and Barreiro, on the southhttp://diario.iol.pt/noticia.html?id=935305&div_id=4072 and would have a length of approximately 15 kilometers. Its towers would have a height of 198 meters, becoming one of Portugal's highest structures. Tagus River
The Tagus ( ; es, Tajo ; pt, Tejo ; see below) is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula. The river rises in the Montes Universales near Teruel, in mid-eastern Spain, flows , generally west with two main south-westward sections, to empty into the Atlantic Ocean in Lisbon. Its drainage basin covers – exceeded in the peninsula only by the Douro. The river is highly used. Several dams and diversions supply drinking water to key population centres of central Spain and Portugal; dozens of hydroelectric stations create power. Barreiro (city)
Barreiro () is a city and a municipality in Setúbal District in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 78,764, in an area of 36.39 km2. Barreiro has a view of the city of Lisbon from Avenida da Praia and a riverside area called Alburrica. The mayor since 2017 has been Frederico Rosa, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 28. History There are records of the village of Barreiro from as far as the 13th century, when the Military Order of Saint James of the Sword promoted its settlement. High-speed Rail In Portugal
In February 2009, the government of Portugal announced plans to build a high-speed rail line from Lisbon to Madrid; this plan was cancelled in March 2012 amidst a bailout programme of financial assistance to the Portuguese Republic. The project was valued at €7.8 billion and the government had claimed it would create 100,000 jobs. The line would link to Spain's Southwest Corridor. In October 2020, the Portuguese government proposed a 75 minute rail link between the cities of Lisbon and Porto and a 55 minute rail link between Porto and Vigo (Spain). These new links will connect with the current railway system in Leiria, Coimbra, Aveiro and Braga (besides the already mentioned cities), diminishing travel times overall in the country.
