''Things Don't Go Smooth'' is a source book published by Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd in 2014 for the science fiction role-playing game ''Firefly Role-Playing Game'', itself based on the TV series of the same name. The two scenarios detailed in the book utilize the Cortex Plus system. Contents ''Things Don't Go Smooth'' is a source book of antagonists that the gamemaster can pit against the players. The first three chapters detail spies and crime bosses, rival gangs and crews and miscellaneous adversaries. New ships are also presented. Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. is a games publisher located in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, United States and founded in 2004 after Margaret Weis and Don Perrin, the two founders of Sovereign Press, divorced. Games Margaret Weis Productions is principally a producer of Tabletop role-playing games, although it also publishes some e-books by Margaret Weis and in 2008 published the Dragon Lairds boardgame, created by James M. Ward and Tom Wham. To date almost all their role-playing games have been licensed games using either the Cortex System or Cortex Plus. Cortex Plus
The Cortex Plus System is a toolkit RPG system that evolved from Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd's Cortex System. It has been used for four published games and one published preview to date, and the design principles are in the ''Cortex Plus Hacker's Guide'', a book of advice in how to create new games using Cortex Plus, and list of new games produced via Kickstarter. According to the Hacker's Guide there are three basic 'flavors' of Cortex Plus; Action, Drama, and Heroic. A gamemaster (GM; also known as game master, game manager, game moderator, referee, or storyteller) is a person who acts as an organizer, officiant for regarding rules, arbitrator, and moderator for a multiplayer role-playing game. They are more common in co-operative games in which players work together than in competitive games in which players oppose each other.
