''The Thin Man'' (1934) is a detective novel by Dashiell Hammett, originally published in a condensed version in the December 1933 issue of ''Redbook''. It appeared in book form the following month. A film series followed, featuring the main characters Nick and Nora Charles, and Hammett was hired to provide scripts for the first two. Plot The story is set in New York City during the Christmas season of 1932, in the last days of Prohibition in the United States. The main characters are Nick Charles, a former private detective, and Nora, his socialite wife. Nick, the son of a Greek immigrant, now spends most of his time in San Francisco managing his former father-in-law's businesses in between heavy drinking sessions. The Thin Man is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by artist Klaus Nordling and an unknown writer in ''Mystic Comics'' #4 (August 1940), and published by Marvel predecessor Timely Comics during the time fans and historians call the Golden Age of Comic Books. ''Nine Objects of Desire'' is the fifth studio album by American musician Suzanne Vega, released on September 10, 1996 through A&M Records. As with her previous album (1992), it was produced by her then-husband Mitchell Froom (who also co-wrote three tracks). Thin Man (瘦人乐队 ''shouren yuedui'') are a Chinese rock band formed in Shandong in 1993 and moved to Beijing in 1994. As other first wave Chinese rock bands such as Black Panther became more pop-orientated, Thin Man was one of the bands which continued to play heavy rock. Nevertheless, Thin Man became the first rock band allowed to perform on CCTV's Tongyi Shou Ge ("The Same Song") on June 30, 1999. Noble "Thin Man" Watts (February 17, 1926 – August 24, 2004) was an American blues, jump blues and rhythm and blues saxophonist. He primarily played tenor saxophone. The AllMusic journalist, Bill Dahl, considered Watts "one of the most incendiary ..fire-breathing tenor sax honkers" of the 1950s. Biography Born in DeLand, Florida, Watts studied violin and trumpet in his youth, later switching to sax. He gained musical training at Florida A&M, where he played in the school's marching band with future saxophonist Cannonball Adderley. Hired to play with The Griffin Brothers after college, Watts began his professional career. During the 1950s, he would work with Lionel Hampton, Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams, Dinah Washington, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, and others. "Thin Man" was the code name for a proposed plutonium gun-type nuclear bomb that the United States was developing during the Manhattan Project. Its development was abandoned when it was discovered that the spontaneous fission rate of nuclear reactor-bred plutonium was too high for use in a gun-type design due to the high concentration of the isotope plutonium-240. Early decisions In 1942, prior to the United States Army taking over control of wartime atomic research in what became known as the Manhattan Project, Robert Oppenheimer held conferences in Chicago in June and Berkeley, California in July, at which physicists discussed nuclear bomb design issues.
