Thin Ice (1919 Film)
''Thin Ice'' is a 1919 American silent drama film directed by Thomas R. Mills and starring Corinne Griffith. It was produced and distributed through the Vitagraph Company of America. This film is preserved at the Bois d'Arcy Archive in Paris. Plot As described in a film magazine, Ned Winton (McLean) is employed in the office of Benjamin Graves (Lytton), a crooked dealer in mining company stocks, and speculates using the firm's funds. Alice (Griffith), his sister, prevents his arrest by signing a note for the amount stolen and puts up as collateral the mining firm stock sold to her father by Graves. Alice marries an author of note. Graves then manipulates the stock and ruins the mining company used as collateral, and notifies Alice that the stock is worthless and that she must put up new security. She goes to see him only to find that he has concocted evidence which would convince her husband that she has been his mistress, and Graves insists that she gratify his desires. She esca ...

Vitagraph Studios, also known as the Vitagraph Company of America, was a United States motion picture studio. It was founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897 in Brooklyn, New York, as the American Vitagraph Company. By 1907, it was the most prolific American film production company, producing many famous silent films. It was bought by Warner Bros. in 1925. Alice Frances Taaffe (July 24, 1899 – December 22, 1987), known professionally as Alice Terry, was an American film actress and director. She began her career during the silent film era, appearing in thirty-nine films between 1916 and 1933. While Terry's trademark look was her blonde hair, she was actually a brunette, and put on her first blonde wig in ''Hearts Are Trumps'' (1920) to look different from Francelia Billington, the other actress in the film. Terry played several different characters in the 1916 anti-war film ''Civilization'', co-directed by Thomas H. Ince and Reginald Barker. Alice wore the blonde wig again in her most acclaimed role as "Marguerite" in film '' The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'' (1921), and kept the wig for any future roles. Walter Miller (March 9, 1892 – March 30, 1940) was an American actor of the silent era and the early sound era. He appeared in nearly 250 films between 1911 and 1940. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack, aged 48. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, Illinois. Eulalie Jensen (December 24, 1884 – October 7, 1952) was an American actress on the New York stage and in silent films. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she was selected as one of six extra girls from the 200 applicants responding to a New York newspaper ad inserted by Sarah Bernhardt. The famed actress was making a visit to New York City. At this time, Miss Jensen was completely unknown, but this was the beginning of her film career. A number of years of stage experience enabled Jensen to become a fine ''emotional actress''. Her stage engagements included a role in ''The Million'' at the 39th St. Theatre. This was a four-act farce by M. M. Ber and Guille Ward. The show was also featured in New Haven, Connecticut at the Hyperion Theatre. Both productions were in 1911. Charles Kent (18 June 1853 – 21 May 1923) was a British-American stage actor and silent film actor and director. He appeared in more than 140 films between 1908 and 1923. He also directed 36 films between 1908 and 1913. Personal life Kent was born on 18 June 1953 in London to Frederick Kent, an Englishman, and Martha Kent, a French woman, in 1853.
