Alfred Peter Abel (12 March 1879 – 12 December 1937) was a German film actor, director, and producer. He appeared in more than 140 silent and sound films between 1913 and 1938. His best-known performance was as Joh Fredersen in Fritz Lang's 1927 film ''Metropolis''. In films, an intertitle, also known as a title card, is a piece of filmed, printed text edited into the midst of (i.e., ''inter-'') the photographed action at various points. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Charlotte Ander (born Charlotte Andersch, 14 August 1902 – 5 August 1969) was a German actress. She was born in Berlin, the daughter of German stage/film couple and . Ander was trained at the Berliner Staatstheater. Ander was a star in the silent era before making the transition to sound. Maria Orska ( uk, Марія Орська; russian: Мария Орская; 16 March 1893 – 16 May 1930) was an important actress of the German theater and cinema in the 1920s. Maria Orska was born as Rachel Blindermann in 1893, of a Jewish family, in a city of Mykolaiv (russian: Nikolaev), not far from Odesa, in what is now Ukraine, at the time a part of Russian Empire. Just before World War I Maria Orska moved to Wien, Hamburg and Berlin in 1915. She spoke fluently German, French, Italian, Russian and Polish. Eldest child of Habrán Moiseyvich Blindermann (Lawyer) and Augusta Frankfurter.
