Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act
The Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act is a bill in the United States House of Representatives that if passed would prohibit, as an unfair and deceptive act or practice, commercial sexual orientation and gender identity conversion therapy, and for other purposes. Introduced bills 114th Congress On May 19, 2015, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), who had authored the first such ban in California while State Senator in 2012, introduced the Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act (H.R. 2450) in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ted Lieu
Ted W. Lieu (; born March 29, 1969) is an American politician and Air Force Reserve Command colonel who has represented California's 33rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2015. The district includes much of western and west Valley Los Angeles, as well as Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Bel Air, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Beach Cities. A member of the Democratic Party, Lieu is one of 18 members of Congress who are naturalized U.S. citizens. Conversion therapy is the pseudoscientific practice of attempting to change an individual's sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to align with heterosexual and cisgender norms. Patricia Lynn Murray (; born October 11, 1950) is an American politician and educator who is the senior United States senator from Washington since 1993. A member of the Democratic Party, Murray was in the Washington State Senate from 1988 to 1992.
