Theodore Ministry
The Theodore Ministry was the 28th ministry of the Government of Queensland and was led by Premier Ted Theodore of the Labor Party. It succeeded the Ryan Ministry on 22 October 1919 following T. J. Ryan's resignation from the Queensland parliament to run for federal politics, and was in turn succeeded by the Gillies Ministry on 26 February 1925 when Theodore followed his predecessor into federal politics. The Ministry
In constitutional usage in Commonwealth realms, a ministry (usually preceded by the definite article, i.e., the ministry) is a collective body of government ministers led by a head of government, such as a prime minister. It is described by Oxford Dictionaries as "a period of government under one prime minister". Although the term "cabinet" can in some circumstances be a synonym, a ministry can be a broader concept which might include office-holders who do not participate in cabinet meetings. Other titles can include "administration" (in the United States) or "government" (in common usage among most parliamentary systems) to describe similar collectives. Alfred Jones (politician)
Alfred James Jones (4 October 1871 – 7 October 1945) was an Australian politician who served as a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council and as Lord Mayor of Brisbane. Early life Alfred James Jones was born at Gayndah, Queensland, the son of Joseph Jones and his wife Ann (''née'' Stevens). He received a basic education at Burnett State School and became a stockman and miner. He spent a short time teaching, was a Cobb & Co driver and spent six years mining. He married Martha Elizabeth Leggett in Gayndah on 1 May 1895 and they had five sons and five daughters: Alfred Stevens, Claude Mills, Gladys Mary, Edward Joseph, Nellie Ann Millicent, Ina, Molly Nundah, Burnett Cranbrook, Allan Halley, and Dorothy Clara. James Stopford (Australian Politician)
James (Stoppy) Stopford (22 July 187830 November 1936) was an Australian miner, union organiser and Labor politician from Mount Morgan, Queensland. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Mount Morgan from 1915 until 1932, and then Maryborough until his death in 1936. Early life James Stopford was born on 22 July 1878 in Rockhampton, the son of John Joshua Stopford and his wife Elizabeth (née Wilson). His family moved to Mount Morgan when he was two years old. He attended Mount Morgan State School. James Stopford commenced his working life as a miner and engine driver at the Mount Morgan Mine. He was an active member of the Labor Party and the Australian Workers Union and was dismissed by the company for his union activity. William Forgan Smith
William Forgan Smith (15 April 188725 September 1953) was an Australian politician. He served as Premier of the state of Queensland from 1932 to 1942. He came to dominate politics in the state during the 1930s, and his populism, firm leadership, defence of states' rights and interest in state development make him something of an archetypal Queensland Premier. 1920 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the States and territories of Australia, Australian state of Queensland on 9 October 1920 to elect the 72 members of the state's Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), Labor government was seeking its third term in office since the 1915 Queensland state election, 1915 election. John Mullan (Australian Politician)
John Mullan (8 September 1871 – 1 October 1941) was an Irish-born Australian politician. Early life Born in Dublin, where he was educated, he migrated to Australia in 1889, becoming a clerk and railway worker. He was an organiser of the Charters Towers Miners' Union and the Australian Workers' Union. Politics In 1908 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Labor member for Charters Towers, where he remained until 1912. In 1913 he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Labor Senator for Queensland. He remained in the Senate until his defeat in 1917, after which he returned to the Queensland Legislative Assembly as the member for Flinders in 1918. He served as Attorney-General from 1920 to 1929. James Larcombe
James Larcombe (1884–1957) was a Labor politician from Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life James Larcombe was born in Rockhampton, Queensland on 25 April 1884. His father, also named James Larcombe, was a butcher, and his mother was Mary (née Lee). He was educated at the Jenkins private school in Rockhampton. As a young man, he worked as a butcher with his father and was active in the local labor movement. John Henry “Harry” Coyne (16 January 186512 June 1926) was an Australian politician who served as a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Electoral district of Warrego from 1908 until 1923.
