Theodor Körner Prize
The Theodor Körner Prize (German: ''Theodor-Körner-Preis'') is a set of annual Austrian awards bestowed by the Theodor Körner Fund in recognition of cultural and/or scientific advances. The prize is awarded at the University of Vienna. The prize is one of Austria's most prestigious awards in the arts and science. History In 1953, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, Federal President Theodor Körner declined all gifts for him and asked that a fund be created instead for the promotion of arts and sciences. Terms Projects and works that may be submitted include scientific papers in the fields of humanities and culture, medicine, science and technology, law, social science and economics. In the arts field, works from fine arts, photography, literature, and musical composition are considered. With some exceptions, scientists and artists may not be older than 40 years. Friederike Mayröcker
Friederike Mayröcker (20 December 1924 – 4 June 2021) was an Austrian writer of poetry and prose, audio plays, children's books and dramatic texts. She experimented with language, and was regarded as an avantgarde poet, and as one of the leading authors in German. Her work, inspired by art, music, literature and everyday life, appeared as "novel and also dense text formations, often described as 'magical'." According to ''The New York Times'', her work was "formally inventive, much of it exploiting the imaginative potential of language to capture the minutiae of daily life, the natural world, love and grief". Life Mayröcker was born in Vienna, the daughter of a teacher and a milliner. Until age 11, she spent the summers regularly in the village Deinzendorf. Hubert Sielecki
Hubert Sielecki (born 6 November 1946 in Rosenbach, Carinthia) is an Austrian artist, primarily known for his animated films. Biography In 1985 he founded the Austrian chapter of the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA). In 1990–1991 he was a lecturer for film at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig. From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of film promotion boards in Austria. Sielecki is also a board member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Elfriede Gerstl
Elfriede Gerstl (16 June 1932 – 9 April 2009) was an Austrian author and Holocaust-survivor. Gerstl, who was Jewish, was born in Vienna, where her father worked as a dentist. Biography She survived the war years by hiding in various locations with her motherat one point she had to hide in a wardrobeand thereby avoided being sent off to a concentration camp. After the war she started studying medicine and psychology at Vienna University, but ended her studies after the birth of her daughter. During the 1950s she became more and more involved in writing, and published her first work in the journal ''Neue Wege'' (New Ways) in 1955. Her first published book was ''Gesellschaftsspiele mit mir'' (Party games with me), a collection of poems and short prose that came out in 1962. Gottfried Helnwein (born 8 October 1948) is an Austrian-Irish visual artist. He has worked as a painter, draftsman, photographer, muralist, sculptor, installation and performance artist, using a wide variety of techniques and media. Ingrid Maria Margarete Leodolter (14 August 1919 – 17 November 1986) was a physician and Austria's first Minister of Public Health and Environmental Protection. Ingrid Zechner was born on 14 August 1919 in Vienna. She attended the Medical School of the University of Vienna and earned her medical degree in 1943. Andreas Okopenko (15 March 1930, Košice – 27 June 2010, Vienna) was an Austrian writer. Andreas Okopenko's father was a Ukrainian physician and his mother was Austrian. From 1939, the family lived in Vienna. After studying chemistry at the University of Vienna Okopenko was active in the industry. Franz Kain
Franz Kain (10 January 1922 – 27 October 1997) was an Austrian writer and politician. He was born in Bad Goisern and was educated locally. He apprenticed as a carpenter but quit and worked as a woodcutter. At the age of 14, he was arrested for distributing leaflets for the communist youth organization and imprisoned for three weeks. Following the Anschluss, he was arrested again in 1941 and was later pressed into service in the German 999th Light Afrika Division. From April 1942 to March 1946, he was held in custody by the Americans as a prisoner of war. When he returned to Austria, Kain began working as a journalist for the newspaper ''Die Neue Zeit'' in Linz. From 1953 to 1956, he was a correspondent for the newspaper '' Volksstimme'' in Berlin.
