Theo Zagorakis
Theodoros Zagorakis ( el, Θεόδωρος Ζαγοράκης ; born 27 October 1971) is a Greek politician and former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was the Captain (association football), captain of Greece national football team, Greece that won UEFA Euro 2004, and was also president of PAOK FC, PAOK. He was named the Greek Male Athlete of the Year in 2004. He was elected as a Greek MEP at the 2014 European Parliament election in Greece, May 2014 European Parliament election. He was also the president of the Hellenic Football Federation, HFF from March to September 2021. Club career Kavala Zagorakis was a central midfielder who could also play on the right side of midfield. He started his career with Kavala F.C., Kavala in 1988, the club that also produced Zisis Vryzas, with whom he became close friends. A Member of the European Parliament (MEP) is a person who has been elected to serve as a popular representative in the European Parliament. When the European Parliament (then known as the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community, ECSC) first met in 1952, its members were directly appointed by the governments of member states from among those already sitting in their own national parliaments. Since 1979, however, MEPs have been elected by direct universal suffrage. Earlier European organizations that were a precursor to the European Union did not have MEPs. Each Member state of the European Union, member state establishes its own method for electing MEPs – and in some states this has changed over time – but the system chosen must be a form of proportional representation.
