Thembi Seete
Thembi Seete (born 25 March 1977), is a South African actress, singer, rapper, television presenter and model. She is best known as a member of former kwaito group ''Boom Shaka''. Currently, she plays the role of "Gladys" in the Mzansi Magic telenovela '' Gomora''. Personal life Seete was born on 25 March 1977 in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. Her father died when she was a teenager. She then grew up in Sebokeng in the Vaal with aunt and uncle. Her mother Rebecca Seete succumbed to a brain tumor in March 2021. She was married to businessman Collen Mashawana. She has one son, Dakalo, who was born in April 2018. Career In 1994, she became one of the members of the kwaito supergroup called ''Boom Shaka''. She continued to perform in the group until the group split in 2000. Then in 2000, she made her debut film with ''Hijack Stories'' in a minor role. Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 1990s. It is a variant of house music that features the use of African sounds and samples. Boom Shaka
Boom Shaka was a pioneering South African kwaito music group consisting of Junior Sokhela, Lebo Mathosa, Theo Nhlengethwa and Thembi Seete. They released their first single "It's About Time" in 1993, and subsequently released their debut LP, titled "Kwere Kwere" in 1994. Boom Shaka is one of the most successful bands of the mid-1990s in South Africa and their music became the soundtrack for many young people in the newly democratic South Africa. Boom Shaka was able to break into the international music scene and achieve success outside of South Africa, such as in London among other places. Mzansi Magic is a South African digital satellite and general entertainment channel created by Multichoice and run by M-Net's local interest division, and is broadcast on DStv. History The channel launched in mid-July 2010 on channel 107 as M-Net's platform to boost local production and showcase entertainment in South Africa. ''Idols'' is a television show on the South African television network Mzansi Magic, and previously on M-Net, based on the popular British show ''Pop Idol''. The show is a contest to determine the best young singer in South Africa. The general format of the show is that thousands of hopeful performers from across South Africa audition in front of the judges. They are narrowed down to approximately 100 to enter the theatre rounds. They perform in group and solo rounds until 16 finalists are chosen by the judges (usually 8 males and 8 females).
