Thein Soe
Thein Soe ( my, သိန်းစိုး; born 23 January 1952) is a former major general in the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Armed Forces and the incumbent chairman of the Union Election Commission. Early life and education Thein Soe was born on 23 January 1952 in the town of Kani, Myanmar, Kani, Sagaing Region, Sagaing Division, Burma (now Myanmar), to Ba Thu and Tin Aye. Career He graduated from the 16th intake of the Defence Services Academy (DSA) and re-enlisted on 31 December 1974. He served in various ranks as an army officer, rising to the rank of major-general, serving as a military judge advocate-general, and later as deputy chief justice of the Supreme Court of Myanmar, Supreme Court. He was also a member of the commission that drafted the 2008 Constitution of Myanmar, 2008 Constitution. Union Election Commission
The Union Election Commission ( my, ပြည်ထောင်စု ရွေးကောက်ပွဲ ကော်မရှင်, abbreviated UEC) is the national level electoral commission of Myanmar (Burma), responsible for organising and overseeing elections in Burma, as well as vetting parliamentary candidates and political parties. 2021 Myanmar Coup D'état
A coup d'état in Myanmar began on the morning of 1 February 2021, when democratically elected members of the country's ruling party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), were deposed by the Tatmadaw—Myanmar's military—which then vested power in a military junta. Acting president Myint Swe proclaimed a year-long state of emergency and declared power had been transferred to Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Min Aung Hlaing. Union Solidarity And Development Party
The Union Solidarity and Development Party ( my, ပြည်ထောင်စုကြံ့ခိုင်ရေးနှင့် ဖွံ့ဖြိုးရေးပါတီ; abbr. USDP) is a political party in Myanmar, registered on 2 June 2010 by the Union Election Commission and currently standing as the largest opposition party in the bicameral Assembly of the Union.
