Theatinerstraße
The Theatinerstraße is a street in Munich's old town. It connects the Odeonsplatz with the southern lying Marienhof and houses a number of classical buildings and several shops. The street received its name due to the adjoining Theatinerkirche; it used to be called ''Hintere Schwabinger Gasse''. Location The Theatinerstraße extends from the Odeonsplatz south to the Marienhof. The Viscardigasse and the Perusastraße connect them with the residential road in the east; via the Salvatorstraße or the Maffeistraße, the western parallel road Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße can be reached. At the height of the Marienhof, the Theatinerstraße turns into Weinstraße at the junction Schäfflergasse, which then leads past the New Town Hall to the Marienplatz. Arco-Palais
The Arco-Palais is a commercial building in Munich's Old Town, Theatinerstraße 7, at the corner of Theatinerstraße / Maffeistraße. Together with the building at Maffeistraße 4, it forms a building block which is registered as a historical monument in the Bavarian Monument List. History The building was erected in 1908–1910 in accordance to plans of Georg Meister and Oswald Bieber. Until 1937 it was owned by the Bavarian noble house of Arco. Among others, Heinrich Thannhauser's Modern Gallery had its exhibition rooms in the building, whose entrance hall is decorated with frescos by Reinhold Max Eichler depicting the Four Seasons. The first exhibition of the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (N.K.V.M.) took place there in December 1909. Trams In Munich
The Munich tramway (german: Straßenbahn München) is the tramway network for the city of Munich in Germany. Today it is operated by the municipally owned Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (the Munich Transport Company, or MVG) and is known officially and colloquially as the ''Tram''. Previous operators have included ''Société Anonyme des Tramways de Munich'', the ''Münchner Trambahn-Aktiengesellschaft'', the ''Städtische Straßenbahnen'' and the ''Straßenbahn München''. Palais Preysing
The Palais Preysing is a late- Baroque mansion in Munich, southern Germany, which served as residence for the Counts of Preysing. To distinguish it from the nearby Palais Neuhaus-Preysing, it is also called the ''Elder Palais Preysing''. Joseph Effner built the mansion between 1723 and 1728 for the Count Johann Maximilian of Preysing opposite to the Residenz. It is Munich's first Rococo style palace. The exterior walls were embellished with stucco. Since its restoration after the destructions of World War II, the building houses shops and offices but the decorated stairway is open for the public. Viscardigasse The mansion is situated behind the Feldherrnhalle at Odeonsplatz, the little alley behind the Palais Preysing connecting the Residenzstrasse and the Theatinerstraße is called Viscardigasse (after Giovanni Antonio Viscardi), but it used to be known by the locals as "Drueckebergergasse". Fünf Höfe
The Shopping mall Fünf Höfe (English: ''Five Courtyards'') in the center of Munich (in the area of Salvator-, Theatiner-, Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße) was created from 1998 to 2003 after the coring of a HypoVereinsbank building complex. In 2004, the Fünf Höfe was sold to DIFA (today ''Union Investment Real Estate AG'') and since then the official name has been ''CityQuartier Fünf Höfe''. General Information In total, the Fünf Höfe offers their visitors, on the approximately 14,000 square meter area, around 60 stores and about 2,500 square meters of cafés and restaurants. They also include the Hypo-Kunsthalle (approximately 3,200 m² of floor space), which displays temporary exhibitions on changing themes, artists and epochs. Feldherrnhalle
The Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshals' Hall) is a monumental loggia on the Odeonsplatz in Munich, Germany. Modelled after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, it was commissioned in 1841 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to honour the tradition of the Bavarian Army. In 1923, it was the site of the brief battle that ended Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch. During the Nazi era, it served as a monument commemorating the death of 16 members of the Nazi party. Structure The Feldherrnhalle was built between 1841 and 1844 at the southern end of Munich's Ludwigstrasse next to the Palais Preysing and east of the Hofgarten. Previously, the Gothic ''Schwabinger Tor'' (gate) occupied that place. Friedrich von Gärtner built the Feldherrnhalle at the behest of King Ludwig I of Bavaria after the example of the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. Odeonsplatz is an important U-Bahn interchange station on the northern edge of Munich's Old Town. It is serviced by the , and , lines of the Munich U-Bahn system, with U 4 and U 5 running in an east-west direction and U3, U6 running perpendicular in a north-south direction. The Munich U-Bahn (german: U-Bahn München) is an electric rail rapid transit network in Munich, Germany.
