Theaterpreis Berlin
The Theaterpreis Berlin is a German theatre award, created in 1988 by the Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung in Berlin. It is awarded annually at the Berliner Theatertreffen to a person in German-language theatre. The prize sum is 20,000 euro. Berlin
Berlin ( , ) is the capital and largest city of Germany by both area and population. Andrea Breth (born 31 October 1952) is a stage director. From 1999 to 2019 she was in-house director at the Burgtheater in Vienna and also directed for the Salzburg Festival. Biography Born in Rieden am Forggensee, Germany, Andrea Breth grew up in Darmstadt. Breth studied German and English language and literature in the University of Heidelberg from 1971 to 1973. Peter Konwitschny
Peter Konwitschny (born 21 January 1945 in Frankfurt am Main) is a German opera and theatre director. Biography Peter Konwitschny grew up in Leipzig, where his father Franz Konwitschny was principal conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. After an aborted study of physics, he studied theatre direction from 1965 until 1970 in Berlin. In the 1970s, Konwitschny worked as an assistant director with Ruth Berghaus at the Berliner Ensemble. From 1980 onwards he chiefly worked as a free-lance director. During this period he directed both opera and theatre productions in Berlin, Halle, Greifswald and Rostock.
