The Zürich Engagement
''The Zürich Engagement'' (german: Die Zürcher Verlobung) is a 1957 West German comedy film directed by Helmut Käutner and starring Liselotte Pulver, Paul Hubschmid, and Bernhard Wicki. A young woman working at a dentist's office falls in love with one of the patients. She writes down her fantasies about him, but problems arise when her words are discovered and are turned into a screenplay for a new film. It is also known by the alternative title ''The Affairs of Julie''. It was shot at the Wandsbek Studios in Hamburg. Helmut Käutner
Helmut Käutner (25 March 1908 – 20 April 1980) was a German film director active mainly in the 1940s and 1950s. He entered the film industry at the end of the Weimar Republic and released his first films as a director in Nazi Germany. Käutner is relatively unknown outside of Germany, although he is considered one of the best filmmakers in German film history. He was one of the most influential film directors of German post-war cinema and became known for his sophisticated literary adaptations. He was born in Düsseldorf, German Empire, Germany. Käutner started out as a director in the Nazi era, but his films remained largely free of Nationalsocialist propaganda. One of his early successes was ''Romanze in Moll'' (1943), an adaptation of Guy du Maupassant’s short story “Les Bijoux". Wandsbek Studios
The Wandsbek Studios are film production and television studios located in Wandsbek, a district of the German city of Hamburg. The complex was established in 1948 when Real Film, set up the previous year, acquired a site in Wandsbek for construction of a studio. Real Film was one of the first German companies to receive a production licence in the wake of the Second World War. The studios were located in the British Zone of Occupation which in 1949 became part of West Germany. Historically the film industry had been centered in Berlin, but as much of this was now under Communist East German control, West German production shifted to Hamburg and the Bavaria Studios in Munich. While Wandsbek was primarily the base of Real Film, it also rented out space to other companies for their productions, such as the 1952 hit ''Toxi'' (1952). Maria Katharina Helene Sebaldt (26 April 1930 in Berlin-Steglitz) is a German actress. Life The daughter of a department head of the Paramount film distribution company took private acting lessons from 1946 to 1949 and passed an acting examination in 1951. As early as 1947 she made her stage debut in Sondershausen as ''Edeltraud Panse'' in Maximilian Böttcher's ''Krach im Hinterhaus''. Traute Carlsen (1882–1968) was a German stage and film actress. Following the Nazi rise to power in 1933, the Jewish Carlsen left Germany for Switzerland where she settled permanently. She was married to the Austrian actor Karl Forest. Biography Carlsen attended the acting school of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin and made her debut in 1907 at the Hof- und Nationaltheater in Mannheim. In 1910 she came to the Komödienhaus in Frankfurt am Main, and in 1912 to the Kleines Theater in Berlin. Werner Finck (2 May 1902 – 31 July 1978) was a German ''Kabarett'' comedian, actor and author. Not politically motivated by his own admission but just a "convinced individualist", he became one of Germany's leading cabaret artists under the conditions of the Nazi suppression after 1933. Biography Born in Görlitz in Prussian Silesia, the son of a pharmacist, Finck attended an art school in Dresden and began his career as an itinerant storyteller of fairy tales in the 1920s. He took acting lessons and began a mediocre tenure in the theatre, making his debut in Silesian Bunzlau (present-day Bolesławiec, Poland). Rudolf Antonius Heinrich Platte (12 February 1904 – 18 December 1984) was a German actor. Biography Born in Hörde, Westphalia (today part of Dortmund) the son of a merchant, his family moved to Hildesheim three years later. Rudolf left school at the age of 16 to take acting lessons, making his debut in 1925 as Shylock in Shakespeare's ''The Merchant of Venice'' in Düsseldorf. Two years later he moved to Berlin, where he together with Werner Finck and Hans Deppe founded the cabaret '' Die Katakombe''.
