The Young Country
''The Young Country'' is a 1970 American Western television film written and directed by Roy Huggins (creator of TV's ''Maverick''). It starred Walter Brennan, Joan Hackett, Wally Cox, Pete Duel and Roger Davis. It was aired on 17 March 1970 in the ''ABC Movie of the Week'' strand. It was televised in the UK on 1 May 1970 and was shown in Japan, Spain, South Korea and the Philippines. Made as a pilot for a potential series, ''The Young Country'' was about con artists in the Old West. ''TV Guide'' describes ''The Young Country'' as a lighthearted Western, where a footloose young gambler is searching for the owner of a mysterious fortune. Steve Sandor (October 27, 1937 – April 5, 2017) was an actor who made his first television appearance on ''Star Trek'', playing Lars in the second season episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion". Ronald Bix Plumstead (March 14, 1930 – March 17, 1993) was an American film and television character actor. He was best known for playing "Wally Plumstead" in the American sitcom television series ''The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'' from 1957 to 1966. Skip Young appeared as George Allison in Father Knows Best episode "Bud Lives it Up" in 1960. Life and career Young was born in San Francisco, California. Roy Huggins (July 18, 1914 – April 3, 2002) was an American novelist and an influential writer/creator and producer of character-driven television series, including ''Maverick'', '' The Fugitive'', '' Hunter'', and ''The Rockford Files''. He became a noted writer and producer using his own name, but much of his later television scriptwriting was done using the pseudonyms Thomas Fitzroy, John Thomas James or John Francis O'Mara.
