The Yo-Yo's
The Yo-Yos are a British rock and roll band, formed in 1998 by ex-The Wildhearts bassist, Danny McCormack and Tom Spencer (ex- Sugarsnatch / The Lurkers), after the two met at a Toy Dolls recording session. The Yo-Yo's recruited Andy Selway (Bladz) (ex- Sugarsnatch) on drums and guitarist Neil Phillips (B-Movie Heroes) to the band. The Yo-Yo's recorded their first single, "Out Of My Mind", and then joined The Backyard Babies for a UK tour. Another single was then recorded, "Rumble(d)". The Yo-Yo's continued to tour the UK and were then signed by the US record label, Sub Pop. On the Sub Pop label, the Yo-Yo's released their debut album, ''Uppers & Downers'' on CD and LP in 2000. Despite gaining a cult following as well a favourable coverage from the rock and indie press, they split up due to infighting among members. The Wildhearts
The Wildhearts are an English rock band, formed in 1989 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band's sound is a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music, often described in the music press as combining influences as diverse as the Beatles and 1980s-era Metallica. The Wildhearts achieved several top 20 singles and two top 10 albums in Britain, though they also faced difficulties with record companies and many internal problems often relating to drugs and depression. Much of the band's early career was affected by bitter feuds with their record company, East West. Throughout the band's history, members have regularly been replaced, with the only constant member being the band's founder, singer and guitarist Ginger. Several band members have appeared in the line-up more than once. The band has also been split up or placed on hiatus by Ginger multiple times. Rich Jones (musician)
Rich Jones is an English guitarist born in Coventry in 1973. He has since played music worldwide and lived in Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin. He now lives in Toronto with his family. Career Jones was a founding member and principal songwriter of the Canadian punk band The Black Halos from 1993–2001, and played in the British punkabilly band The Yo-Yos (2005), and the American punk bands Amen (2002-2005) and Sorry and the Sinatras (2007-2009). In addition, he toured and recorded with Alec Empire, Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Leyton, and The Dogs D'Amour, as well as doing artwork for Michael Monroe, Killing Joke, Amen and Eureka Machines. Jones also appears as a guest guitarist on the Therapy? album '' Shameless''. When he lived in London, he played and recorded with Wildhearts frontman Ginger, The Loyalties with ex Yo-Yo Tom Spencer, and Sorry and the Sinatras with Scott Sorry (ex-Amen). Carl Barât
Carl Ashley Raphael Barât (; born 6 June 1978) is a British musician and actor, best known for being the co-frontman with Pete Doherty of the garage rock band The Libertines. He was the frontman and lead guitarist of Dirty Pretty Things, and in 2010 debuted a solo album. In 2014 he announced the creation of his new band, The Jackals. Early life Carl Barât was born in Basingstoke, north Hampshire, England, on 6 June 1978, and spent most of his childhood in nearby Whitchurch, Hampshire. Andy Cairns
Therapy? are a Northern Irish rock band from Larne, formed in 1989 by guitarist-vocalist Andy Cairns and drummer-vocalist Fyfe Ewing. Therapy? recorded their first demo with Cairns filling in on bass guitar. To complete the lineup, the band recruited Larne bassist Michael McKeegan. The band signed with major label A&M Records in 1992, for which they released four albums, most notably ''Troublegum'' in 1994 and ''Infernal Love'' in 1995. Ewing's departure in early 1996 preceded the arrivals of his replacement Graham Hopkins, and Martin McCarrick on cello and guitar. Neil Cooper replaced Hopkins on drums in 2002. Barfly (club)
The Barfly was a chain of live music venues in the United Kingdom originally started by Nick Moore, Jeremy Ledlin and Be Rozzo on Valentine's Day 1997. Club nights and events tended to feature rock, alternative and independent music. The flagship venue was based in Camden Town, London, England. The premises are still used as a live music venue, which has a capacity of 200. Camden venue Prior to 2000, the flagship Camden venue had been known as The Monarch, a pub which had hosted live music gigs since the 1980s. During the 1990s it became a regular venue for Britpop bands. The venue was featured in Episode 5 of Season 2 of TV series ''Spaced'' which centred around lead characters Tim and Daisy having a night out in Camden. Tom Spencer (musician)
Tom Spencer (born 30 June 1967) is an English singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is the current frontman for the punk rock band The Professionals. Early life and music career Born in West London and the son of novelist and musician John B. Spencer, Spencer began gigging in his teens, firstly singing backing vocals for his father's bands in London and then supporting him with his own school formed bands. He continued his musical education as guitarist for his father, touring Europe for the first time. Mighty Atom Records
Mighty Atom Records is a Welsh based record label. The company was formed in early 2000 by Dave Simpson and Roger Hopkins. It is known for having been one of a few independent record labels at the forefront of the UK emo scene in the early 2000s, due to its early involvement with Funeral for a Friend. It operates out of the former BBC buildings in Swansea, Wales. The label ran into financial difficulties as the years progressed and although still a functioning label, have not released any material since Brigade in 2006. The Mighty Atom recording facility 'Mighty Atom Studios' still operates out of Wales, and has recorded the majority of the bands and records released on the label. 3 Colours Red
3 Colours Red were an English rock band, formed in 1994 in London. They achieved their biggest chart success at the end of the 1990s, along with other British rock bands such as Ash and Feeder. The band was named by sticking a pin in a London listings magazine, ''Time Out''. It landed randomly on an advertisement for the concluding part of the Polish film director Krzysztof Kieślowski's, ''Three Colors'', trilogy. They went on to record two UK Top 20 albums, and six Top 40 singles. KMFDM
KMFDM (originally Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, loosely translated by the band as "no pity for the majority") is a multinational industrial band from Hamburg led by Sascha Konietzko, who founded the band in 1984 as a performance art project. The band's earliest incarnation included German drummer En Esch and British vocalist Raymond Watts, the latter of whom left and rejoined the group several times over its history. The trio recorded the band's earliest albums in Germany before Konietzko and Esch moved to the United States, where they found much greater success with seminal industrial record label Wax Trax!. German guitarist Günter Schulz joined in 1990; both he and Esch continued with the band until KMFDM broke up in 1999. Danny McCormack
Danny McCormack (born 28 February 1972 in South Shields) is an English singer and bassist. Biography McCormack became the bass player in The Wildhearts in 1991, and soon relocated to London with the band, enjoying success during their commercial peak, before the splits in 1997 and 1998. McCormack went on to form and front The Yo-Yos, with Tom Spencer (ex-Sugarsnatch/The Lurkers), and the band released an album on Sub Pop Records, but they eventually split in 2000. He re-joined The Wildhearts when they reformed in 2001, but was dropped midway through a tour. He rejoined again in 2002, but left once more in 2003. At the time the group's frontman Ginger penned an open letter to ''Kerrang!'' magazine documenting his close friend's drug problems and wished him a complete recovery.
