The Yellow Handkerchief (1977 Film)
is a 1977 Japanese film directed by Yoji Yamada. It was the winner of the first Best Picture award at the Japan Academy Prize. The film was inspired by the American song "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree," itself based on a column series written by journalist Pete Hamill for the ''New York Post'' in 1971. Plot Kinya Hanada, who fell out of love with Nobuko, suddenly retired from the factory where he worked. With his retirement allowance, he bought a bright red Mazda Familia and took a ferry alone to Hokkaido for healing his broken heart. Kinya, who came to Abashiri from Kushiro, started talking to the woman in front of the station. Meanwhile, Yusaku Shima, a former coal miner who has finished his sentence, is released from Abashiri prison. He stops by the cafeteria and orders beer with soy sauce ramen and katsudon. Yoji Yamada
is a Japanese film director best known for his ''Otoko wa Tsurai yo'' series of films and his Samurai Trilogy (''The Twilight Samurai'', ''The Hidden Blade'' and '' Love and Honor''). Biography He was born in Osaka, but due to his father's job as an engineer for the South Manchuria Railway, he was brought up in Dalian, China. from the age of two. Following the end of World War II, he returned to Japan and subsequently lived in Yamagata Prefecture. After receiving his degree from Tokyo University in 1954, he entered Shochiku and worked under Yoshitaro Nomura as a scriptwriter or as an assistant director. He won many awards throughout his lengthy career and is well respected in Japan and by critics throughout the world. He wrote his first screenplay in 1958, and directed his first movie in 1961. is a Japanese actress and voice actress. Biography Despite being born in Tokyo, Okamoto was actually raised in Hirakata, Osaka, where she also spent her elementary-school years. In 1961, she made her debut for performing arts activities in comedy. In 1970, she moved back to Tokyo, with subsequent transfer to the headquarters of the city, where she changed her name from "Noda Mutsumi" to her current name.
