The Xenon Codex
''The Xenon Codex'' is the fifteenth studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind, released in 1988. It spent two weeks on the UK albums chart peaking at #79. The group's line-up remained unchanged for three years. The album was recorded at Loco Studios, Caerleon and Rockfield Studios, Monmouth in February and March 1988. It was produced with Guy Bidmead, who had previously been Vic Maile's assistant. The lyrics to "The War I Survived" and "Heads" were written by Roger Neville-Neil, who was a Hawkwind fan. "Lost Chronicles" is banded as separate track, but it forms the instrumental middle section of "Neon Skyline". The cover is by Bob Walker, who had also illustrated the inner sleeve for ''The Chronicle of the Black Sword'' and adapted Michael Butterworth's ''Ledge of Darkness'' in graphic novel form. Alan Davey (musician)
Alan Davey (born 11 September 1963 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England) is an English musician, best known as the former bassist with Hawkwind. He is the original bass player in Gunslinger which started in 1979 and is still the bass player and vocalist for Gunslinger. He was writing a new album for 2018 release on Cleopatra Records, as well as two solo albums for 2018 and 2019 release, and is also writing music for movies and TV shows. He has also played and recorded with Meads of Asphodel, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, Spirits Burning, Bedouin (1998-2003). He formed with the newly re-imagined Hawklords in 2008 with Nik Turner until 2012 and since then formed The Psychedelic Warlords in 2013 until 2015. Early musical career Davey formed his first band, Gunslinger, in 1979 with his cousin Nigel Potter. David Anthony Brock (born 20 August 1941) is an English musician. He plays electric guitar, keyboards, bass and oscillators. ''Undisclosed Files'' (LP version) was released by Hawkwind to promote their new (at the time) label, The Emergency Broadcast System in 1993, catalogue number "HAWKWIND·1". ''Undisclosed Files Addendum'' is the 1995 CD release with slightly modified tracks. Both are live album releases by Hawkwind, composed of highlights from two concerts in 1984 and 1988. Tracks 7-11 were re-released in May 2010 as bonus tracks on '' The Xenon Codex''. The 1984 tracks were recorded live, at Sheffield University 27 November 1984. The 1988 tracks were recorded at Hammersmith Odeon, December 1988. The 1988 tour was Richard Chadwick's first Hawkwind tour. Dumpy's Rusty Nuts
Dumpy's Rusty Nuts were a British rock band founded in 1981 by the lead singer Graham "Dumpy" Dunnell (born July 1949, London, England). Though unsuccessful as recording artists the band have been a successful and popular live act for decades. The band attracted a cult following for their live performances in small rock venues. Their initial audiences were drawn from the new wave of British heavy metal and 'Bikers' and they became particularly well known at the London Marquee Club, where they were a regular and popular attraction. In the early to mid-1980s the band toured extensively around the UK playing at small rock/'Biker' pub and club venues including the Isle of Man TT, and music festivals, cementing their name and following. The Hammersmith Apollo, currently called the Eventim Apollo for sponsorship reasons, and formerly known as the Hammersmith Odeon, is a live entertainment performance venue, originally built as a cinema called the Gaumont Palace. Located in Hammersmith, London, it is an art deco Grade II* listed building. Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music
''Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music'' is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Hawkwind, released in 1976. It reached No. 33 on the UK album charts. The title makes references to old science fiction magazines (''Astounding'' and ''Amazing Stories''), the concept being that each piece of music (and its title) would be interpreted as an individual science fiction story. The record cover is a parody of the cover of these magazines, while the inner sleeve carried small ads, with each band member having their own product (e.g. Dr Brock's cure for piles, Paul Rudolph's Manly Strapon, and Simon King's Pleasure Primer). The cover was double sided, one side illustrated by Calvert's childhood friend Tony Hyde, the other by Barney Bubbles signed as Grove Lane, with initial print-runs having either as the front cover. Barney Bubbles
Barney Bubbles (born Colin Fulcher; 30 July 1942 – 14 November 1983) was an English graphic artist whose work encompassed graphic design and music video direction. Bubbles, who also sketched and painted privately, is best known for his distinctive contribution to the design practices associated with the British rock music, British independent music scene of the 1970s and 1980s. His record sleeves, laden with symbols and riddles, were his most recognisable output.
