''The World Series of Pop Culture'' (also known as ''2007 World Series of Pop Culture'' in season 2) was a VH1 game show tournament program sponsored by Alltel Wireless, based on Entertainment Weekly's Pop Culture Quiz. Sixteen teams, comprising three people each, compete to determine which team, collectively, knows the most about elements of popular culture. One of the teams each season ("Almost Perfect Strangers" in season 1, "Almost Perfect Strangers 2.0" in season 2) was made up of three qualifiers selected on the basis of a test over the internet; the three internet qualifiers had no other connection to each other. Tapings for the first season took place in New York City from April 29–30, 2006 at the Ziegfeld Theatre. A wide range of topics are covered such as movies, music, TV and other miscellaneous pop culture. The top prize was $250,000. Michael Davies (television Producer)
Michael Davies (born 3 March 1966) is a United States-based British television game shows producer. He is best known for bringing the game show ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'' to American television. Since 2014, he has hosted a podcast entitled ''Men in Blazers'' alongside journalist Roger Bennett. Since 2021, he has served as the executive producer of the game show ''Jeopardy!'' following Mike Richards departure from the program after various controversies came to light. Ziegfeld Theatre (1969)
The Ziegfeld Theatre was a single-screen movie theater located at 141 West 54th Street in midtown Manhattan in New York City. It opened in 1969 and closed in 2016. The theater was named in honor of the original Ziegfeld Theatre (1927–1966) which was built by the impresario Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. History On December 17, 1969, a few hundred feet from the site of the original Ziegfeld Theatre, a new Ziegfeld opened as a single-screen movie house with the New York premiere of ''Marooned''. It was the flagship of the Walter Reade movie theatre chain. Constructed by Emery Roth & Sons from designs by Irving Gershon it was built on part of the old theatre and was the first new theatre in the Times Square area since Radio City Music Hall was built in 1932.
