Logos (Christianity)
In Christianity, the Logos ( el, Λόγος, lit=word, discourse, or reason) is a name or title of Jesus Christ, seen as the pre-existent second person of the Trinity. In the Douay–Rheims, King James, New International, and other versions of the Bible, the first verse of the Gospel of John reads: In these translations, ''Word'' is used for Λόγος, although the term is often used transliterated but untranslated in theological discourse. According to Irenaeus of Lyon (''c'' 130–202), a student of John's disciple Polycarp (''c'' pre-69-156), John the Apostle wrote these words specifically to refute the teachings of Cerinthus, who both resided and taught at Ephesus, the city John settled in following his return from exile on Patmos. While Cerinthus claimed that the world was made by "a certain Power far separated from" "Almighty God," John, according to Irenaeus, by means of John 1:1-5, presented Almighty God as the Creator - "by His Word." And while Cerinthus made ...

The Word Bookstore
The Word Bookstore, or simply The Word, is an independent bookstore in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, located in the McGill Ghetto downtown. It specializes in used philosophy and English poetry books. History The bookstore was started by Adrian King-Edwards and Luci Friesen of McGill University in 1973 in their own apartment living room as an "underground" bookstore, with a photo of George Bernard Shaw in their front window. The couple, who had first met at McGill University, had spent the previous summer hawking paperbacks out of their Volkswagen van in northern British Columbia, prior to the opening of the store in their apartment. They moved their store next door to its current location on 469 Milton Street in 1975, a 19th-century brick building which was the site of the former neighbourhood Chinese laundry for 70 years. The Word has frequently ranked as the number one secondhand bookstore in the Montreal Mirror’s annual Best of Montreal list. In 2009, the Quebec Writers’ Feder ...

The Word (song)
"The Word" is a song by English rock band the Beatles, written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and recorded with Lennon on lead vocals. It was first released on their 1965 album ''Rubber Soul''. Composition The song was co-written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. According to Lennon, it was written together but it was "mainly mine". Music Musically, the song is founded on a driving funk beat, with few chord changes and a simple melody in the key of D major. (The refrain is a 12 bar blues in D. The main chord is D7(9), also used in " Drive My Car" and "Taxman".) Paul McCartney said of this song, "John and I would like to do songs with just one note like 'Long Tall Sally'. We get near it in 'The Word'". Reception In his review for the 50th anniversary of ''Rubber Soul'', Jacob Albano of ''Classic Rock Review'' writes that "The Word" is the first song on its parent album not to be "absolutely excellent," calling the harmonies "a bit too forced." However, Albano still consi ...
