''The Wonderful Thing'' is a 1921 American drama film directed by Herbert Brenon and written by Clara Beranger and Herbert Brenon. It is based on the 1920 play ''The Wonderful Thing'' by Lillian Trimble Bradley and Forrest Halsey. Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Ethel Fleming (December 27, 1890 – December 26, 1965) was an American actress and swimmer. She appeared in various films and stage productions during the early 20th century, including in a leading role opposite William Desmond in a stage production of ''The Pretender''. She was married to actor William Courtleigh Jr. following a three week courtship until his death in 1918. Clara Beranger (' Strouse; January 14, 1886 – September 10, 1956) was an American screenwriter of the silent film era and a member of the original faculty of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Biography Beranger was born Clara Strouse in Baltimore, Maryland, to Benjamin and Fannie (Kahn) Strouse. Benjamin and his brothers had emigrated from Germany and opened a dry-goods store in Indiana.DeMille. 1998.
