The first season of the American television series '' Star Trek: Discovery'' is set a decade before the events of '' Star Trek: The Original Series'' and follows the crew of the USS ''Discovery'' during the Federation–Klingon war. The season was produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment, and Living Dead Guy Productions, with Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts serving as showrunners, and Akiva Goldsman providing producing support. Sonequa Martin-Green stars as Michael Burnham, first officer of the USS ''Shenzhou'' and later the ''Discovery'', along with Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, and Jason Isaacs. The series was announced in November 2015, and Bryan Fuller joined as showrunner the next February. Sonequa Chaunté Martin-Green (; Martin; born March 21, 1985) is an American actress. She is best known for her television roles as Michael Burnham, the main character in the streaming television series '' Star Trek: Discovery'', and as Sasha Williams on '' The Walking Dead''. Before that, Martin-Green starred in several independent films before gaining her first recurring role, as Courtney Wells on ''The Good Wife''. Akiva J. Goldsman (born July 7, 1962) is an American filmmaker. He is known for making motion pictures and adaptations of popular novels. "The Vulcan Hello" is the series premiere of the American television series '' Star Trek: Discovery'', which is set roughly a decade before the events of the original ''Star Trek'' series and shows the beginnings of the Federation–Klingon cold war.
