''The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings'' ( pl, Wiedźmin 2: Zabójcy królów) is a 2011 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red, based on ''The Witcher'' series of fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. It is the sequel to the 2007 game ''The Witcher'' and the second main installment in ''The Witchers video game series. It was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, OS X, and Linux. The player directs the actions of Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher. The fantasy world in which his adventures take place owes much to Polish history and Slavic mythology. The game was both a critical and commercial success, selling over 8 million copies by September 2014. The third installment in the series, '' The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'', was released in May 2015. CD Projekt S.A. () is a Polish video game developer, publisher and distributor based in Warsaw, founded in May 1994 by Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński. Iwiński and Kiciński were video game retailers before they founded the company, which initially acted as a distributor of foreign video games for the domestic market. The department responsible for developing original games, CD Projekt Red (stylised as CD PROJEKT RED), best known for ''The Witcher'' series, was formed in 2002. In 2008, CD Projekt launched the digital distribution service Good Old Games, now known as GOG.com. The company began by translating major video-game releases into Polish, collaborating with Interplay Entertainment for two ''Baldur's Gate'' games. Slavic mythology or Slavic religion is the religious beliefs, myths, and ritual practices of the Slavs before Christianisation, which occurred at various stages between the 8th and the 13th century. Gamescom (stylized as gamescom) is a trade fair for video games held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Since 2018, it has been organised by ''game – Verband der deutschen Games-Branche'' (English: Association of the German video game industry); and before that, by the ''Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware'' (BIU). The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane () is a fictional psychiatric hospital/prison, which appeared first in the novels of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, and later appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in stories featuring the superhero Batman. It first appeared in ''Batman'' #258 (October 1974), written by Dennis O'Neil with art by Irv Novick. The asylum serves as a psychiatric hospital for the Gotham City area, housing patients who are criminally insane.
