The Wind From A Burning Woman
''The Wind from a Burning Woman'' is a collection of science fiction stories by author Greg Bear. It was released in 1982 and was the author's first hardcover book. It was published by Arkham House in an edition of 3,046 copies. The book is unusual among Arkham House publications in that a signed 'state' exists. Bear wanted to celebrate his first hardcover story collection with a limited edition, so he bought 250 copies himself, had special bookplates printed up, pasted them inside the front covers, and then signed each plate. He also had the two artists who worked on the book sign the plates. This state of the book was not strictly authorized by Arkham House, but can be considered a variant or special state of the volume. Greg Bear
Gregory Dale Bear (August 20, 1951 – November 19, 2022) was an American writer and illustrator best known for science fiction. His work covered themes of galactic conflict ('' Forge of God'' books), parallel universes ('' The Way'' series), consciousness and cultural practices ('' Queen of Angels''), and accelerated evolution ('' Blood Music'', ''Darwin's Radio'', and '' Darwin's Children''). His most recent work was the 2021 novel ''The Unfinished Land''. Greg Bear wrote over 50 books in total. Early life Greg Bear was born in San Diego, California. He attended San Diego State University (1968–1973), where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. At the university, he was a teaching assistant to Elizabeth Chater in her course on science fiction writing, and in later years her friend. Vincent Di Fate
Vincent Di Fate (born November 21, 1945) is an American artist specializing in science fiction, fantasy and realistic space art (hardware art) illustration. He was inducted by the Science Fiction Hall of Fame on June 25, 2011. Di Fate was born in Yonkers, New York. He studied at the Phoenix School of Design in New York City and received his MA in Illustration at Syracuse University. He broke into speculative fiction pulp magazines with illustrations for three different stories in the August 1969 issue of '' Analog Science Fiction/Science Fact'', edited by John W. Campbell, and did his first cover illustration for the November issue. Di Fate calls his 1997 book ''Infinite Worlds'' "the first comprehensive history of science fiction art in America". Arkham House
Arkham House is an American publishing house specializing in weird fiction. It was founded in Sauk City, Wisconsin, in 1939 by August Derleth and Donald Wandrei to publish hardcover collections of H. P. Lovecraft's best works, which had previously been published only in pulp magazines. The company's name is derived from Lovecraft's fictional New England city, Arkham, Massachusetts. Arkham House editions are noted for the quality of their printing and binding. The colophon for Arkham House was designed by Frank Utpatel. Founding In late 1937, after Lovecraft's death, Derleth and Wandrei sought to produce a collection of their friend's best weird fiction from the pulp magazines into a memorial volume. Nebula Award
The Nebula Awards annually recognize the best works of science fiction or fantasy published in the United States. The awards are organized and awarded by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), a nonprofit association of professional science fiction and fantasy writers. They were first given in 1966 at a ceremony created for the awards, and are given in four categories for different lengths of literary works. A fifth category for film and television episode scripts was given 1974–78 and 2000–09, and a sixth category for game writing was begun in 2018.
