Souleymane Cissé (film Director)
Souleymane Cissé (born April 21, 1940) is a Malian film director, regarded as one of the first generation of African filmmakers. He has been called "Africa's greatest living filmmaker" while his film ''Yeelen'' has been called "conceivably the greatest African film ever made." Biography Born in Bamako and raised in a Muslim family, Souleymane Cissé was a passionate cinephile from childhood. He attended secondary school in Dakar and returned to Mali in 1960 after national independence. His film career began as an assistant projectionist for a documentary on the arrest of Patrice Lumumba. This triggered his desire to create films of his own, and he obtained a scholarship at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, the Moscow school of Cinema and Television. In 1970 he returned to Mali, and joined the Ministry of Information as a cameraman, where he produced documentaries and short films. Dan is a Southern Mande language spoken primarily in Ivory Coast (~800,000 speakers) and Liberia (150,000–200,000 speakers). There is also a population of about 800 speakers in Guinea. Dan is a tonal language, with around 9-11 contour and register tones depending on the dialect. Alternative names for the language include Yacouba or Yakubasa, Gio, Gyo, Gio-Dan, and Da. Ismaila is a town and Union Council of Swabi District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is located at 34°13'0N 72°15'0E Its population is about 60,000. There is a government high school for girls and secondary school for boys. Kernel Sher Khan Cadet college is located here. There is also a basic health unit in the town. Ismaila is very famous for Chapli Kabab and Faiq Lobia farosh. Crops like wheat, maize and rice are grown here and the lands are aggregated by the Malakand Canal.
