Maurice Marshall (director)
Maurice "Moss" Lane Marshall (12 January 1927 – 16 May 2013) was a New Zealand middle-distance athlete. Early life and family Marshall was born in Thames on 12 January 1927, the son of Henry Horace Marshall and Constance Marshall (née Hill). In 1954, he married Elizabeth Mary "Betty" Conradi at All Hallows Chapel, Southwell School, Hamilton, and the couple went on to have three children. Athletics Marshall represented New Zealand at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland, where he won a bronze medal in the 1 mile. The following year, he won the first of his two New Zealand national athletics titles, winning the 1 mile in a time of 4:17.7. In 1952, he won his second 1-mile championship, in a personal best time of 4:11.8. Marshall competed for New Zealand at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in both the 1500 m and the 800 m, but did not progress beyond the heats. Arthur Rankin (actor)
Arthur Gardner Rankin Sr. (August 30, 1895 – March 23, 1947) was an American film actor. Personal life Arthur Rankin was born in New York, the son of actress Phyllis Rankin. She later married actor Harry Davenport, who adopted Arthur. He was the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew. Rankin served in the United States Marine Corps during World War I, and received a medical discharge in 1918. He then joined the British Army. During World War II, Rankin rejoined the Marine Corps. Rankin married Marian Mansfield, and they had two sons, one of them being animator Arthur Rankin Jr.. He died on March 22, 1947, of a cerebral hemorrhage. Maurice Lloyd Ryan (7 June 1943 – 12 August 2011) was a New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Canterbury and Central Districts from 1965 to 1979. Lionel Belmore (12 May 1867 – 30 January 1953) was an English character actor and director on stage for more than a quarter of a century. Life and career Onstage, Belmore appeared with Wilson Barrett, Sir Henry Irving, William Faversham, Lily Langtry, and other famous actors. He entered in films from 1911. In total, he had some 200 titles to his film credit. He was notable as the huffy-puffy Herr Vogel the Burgomaster in ''Frankenstein'' (1931). Belmore played bit parts in several 1930s film classics. Unusually, he was a director before he became a prolific actor. He directed from 1914 to 1920, only acting in a limited number of films, until concentrating as an actor from then on. Flora Finch (17 June 1867 – 4 January 1940) was an English-born vaudevillian, stage and film actress who starred in over 300 silent films, including over 200 for the Vitagraph Studios film company. The vast majority of her films from the silent era are currently classified as lost. Early life and career Finch was born into a music hall and travelling theatrical family in London and was taken to the United States as a young child. She kept up the family tradition and worked in theatre and the vaudeville circuit right up until her 30s. She had her first film roles at the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company starting in 1908. There she worked with Fatty Arbuckle, Mack Sennett (with whom she was reportedly involved romantically for a short time), Charlie Chaplin, and other leading performers and producers of the silent era.
