''The Widow in Scarlet'' (also known as ''Lady Raffles'') is a 1932 American Pre-Code Hollywood, pre-Code mystery film, mystery crime film directed by George B. Seitz and starring Dorothy Revier, Kenneth Harlan and Lloyd Whitlock . It was distributed by the independent film, independent Mayfair Pictures. Synopsis Baroness Orsani makes a bet that she can steal a friend's valuable diamond necklace jus to prove that she can, intending to return it afterwards. Before she can accomplish this, a gang of international jewel thieves led by a man posing as a police inspector, steal it first. Myrtle Stedman (born Myrtle Lincoln; March 3, 1883 – January 8, 1938) was an American leading lady and later character actress in motion pictures who began in silent films in 1910. Biography Stedman was born Myrtle Lincoln in Chicago, Illinois, and educated at Mrs. Starett's School there and at the Chicago School of Acting. She and her family moved to Colorado because of her father's mining interests there. Stedman performed in light opera and musical comedies in Chicago. Her voice was cultivated in France. Her tutor was Marchesi, who was known as one of the finest instructors of voice culture in his country. She married Marshall Stedman, a drama school conductor, in January 1900. They had one child together, Lincoln Stedman, before divorcing in 1920. In 1915, Stedman became the first woman elected to the Motion Picture Board of Trade of America. Mayfair is an affluent area in the West End of London towards the eastern edge of Hyde Park, in the City of Westminster, between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane. Biography Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the grandson of Wendell Phillips; he was the son of George Washburn Smalley, a war correspondent, and his wife Phoebe Garnaut, adopted by Phillips. He matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford in 1886. Smalley began his career in vaudeville and acted in more than 200 films between 1910 and his death in 1939. Arthur Millett (April 21, 1874 in Pittsfield, Maine – February 24, 1952 in Los Angeles, California), born Arthur Nelson Millett, was an early American motion picture actor whose career was at its height in the silent film era. Biography Born in 1874, Millett was signed on to appear in his first film relatively late in life at age 40 in 1914, but immediately work began to pick up. His first film ''The Lost Treasure'' was released in 1914. In 1915, he starred in films such as '' Coals of Fire'' and ''The Law of the Wilds'', working with prolific actors such as Harry von Meter and Vivian Rich. Millett starred in a total of 116 film in his career. With the advent of sound films, however, his career declined significantly. In the majority of the roles in his 60 or so films after 1927, Millett was uncredited. Millett was married to actress Neva Gerber. He retired from film in 1940 and died in 1952.
