The Wide Country
''Wide Country'' was an American Western television series that aired on NBC from September 20, 1962 to April 25, 1963. Synopsis The series stars Earl Holliman and Andrew Prine as brothers, Mitch and Andy Guthrie, respectively, who are traveling rodeo competitors. In the recurring story line, older, wiser brother Mitch, a champion bronco rider, discourages Andy from following in Mitch's footsteps. The pilot for the series entitled "Second Chance" was aired on March 13, 1962, on the anthology series ''Alcoa Premiere'' on ABC. ''Wide Country'' is similar to the ABC series '' Stoney Burke'', starring Jack Lord as a rodeo performer, which aired thirty-two episodes during the same season. Andrew Prine
Andrew Lewis Prine (February 14, 1936 – October 31, 2022) was an American film, stage, and television actor. Early life and career Prine was born in Jennings, Florida. After graduation from Miami Jackson High School in Miami, Prine attended the University of Miami and performed at the acclaimed Jerry Herman Ring Theatre. Prine made his acting debut three years later in an episode of ''United States Steel Hour''. His next role was in the 1959 Broadway production of Thomas Wolfe's ''Look Homeward, Angel''. In 1962, Prine was cast in Academy Award-nominated film ''The Miracle Worker'' as Helen Keller's older brother James. John Florea
John Florea (born in Alliance, Ohio on May 28, 1916; died in Las Vegas on August 25, 2000) was an American television director and a photographer. Career Florea started as a photographer for the San Francisco Examiner, then was signed onto the staff of LIFE in 1941, living in Hollywood and specializing in celebrity portraits of actresses, such as Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor which led to U.S. involvement in World War II he joined America's first war correspondents for the Pacific war, where he covered the Marines and the Navy, especially during the Battle of Tarawa in December 1943, and from 1944 until the end of the war, he followed the American army in French and Belgian campaigns, documenting the bombing of German cities and liberation of inmates of Nordhausen Nazi concentration camp. John Newland (November 23, 1917 – January 10, 2000) was an American director, actor, television producer, and screenwriter. Early life and career Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Newland began his career in vaudeville while still in his teens.
