The Weyburn Regiment
The Weyburn Regiment was an infantry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia (now the Canadian Army). The regiment was created in 1924 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, from the reorganization of The South Saskatchewan Regiment into 5 separate regiments. In 1936, The Weyburn Regiment was amalgamated with The Saskatchewan Border Regiment to re-form The South Saskatchewan Regiment. History On March 15, 1920, as a result of the Canadian Militia reforms following the Otter Commission, the ''95th Saskatchewan Rifles'' amalgamated with the ''60th Rifles of Canada'' and was renamed as The South Saskatchewan Regiment. Hill 70
The Battle of Hill 70 took place in the First World War between the Canadian Corps and five divisions of the German 6th Army. The battle took place along the Western Front on the outskirts of Lens in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France between 15 and 25 August 1917. The objectives of the assault were to inflict casualties and to draw German troops away from the 3rd Battle of Ypres and to make the German hold on Lens untenable. The Canadian Corps executed an operation to capture Hill 70 and then establish defensive positions from which combined small-arms and artillery fire, some of which used the new technique of predicted fire, would repel German counter-attacks and inflict as many casualties as possible. Arras ( , ; pcd, Aro; historical nl, Atrecht ) is the prefecture of the Pas-de-Calais department, which forms part of the region of Hauts-de-France; before the reorganization of 2014 it was in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Royal Warwickshire Regiment
The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, previously titled the 6th Regiment of Foot, was a line infantry regiment of the British Army in continuous existence for 283 years. The regiment saw service in many conflicts and wars, including the Second Boer War and both the First and Second World Wars. On 1 May 1963, the regiment was re-titled, for the final time, as the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers and became part of the Fusilier Brigade. Osage ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Fillmore No. 96 and Census Division No. 2. Carlyle, Saskatchewan
Carlyle ( 2016 population 1,508) is a town in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Carlyle is the largest town servicing the far south-eastern corner of Saskatchewan and as a result, has become the economic and services centre of the region. Estevan and Weyburn are the closest cities and both are a little over 100 kilometres away. Regina, the provincial capital, lies 200 km to the north-west. Carlyle is located within the RM of Moose Mountain in Census Division No. 1 in Western Canada. Arcola, Saskatchewan
Arcola is a town in south-east Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately north and east of Estevan. Highway 13, Highway 604, and Arcola Airport provide access to the community. Arcola served as the location for the Allan King film feature of W.O. Mitchell's ''Who Has Seen the Wind''. History From 1757 to the 1850s the Fort Ellice- Wood Mountain Trail was used by early fur traders, Metis, and First Nations as a supply route from the buffalo hunting grounds near Wood Mountain to Fort Ellice. Pemmican was one of the main goods brought back to Fort Ellice. The trail ran along the south side of Moose Mountain Upland, through what is today Arcola. The Palliser expedition in 1857 and the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), as part of the March West to deal with the Cypress Hills Massacre, in 1874 also went through this area.
