''The Western Way'' is a Western music trade magazine. It is published quarterly in Coppell, Texas, by the Western Music Association. History and profile ''The Western Way'' features articles about current Western music, musicians, musical groups, and cowboy poetry, as well as historical articles. It also covers professional training and self-help subjects. In addition, each issue contains listings of Western music festivals, playlists of Western music currently played by radio stations, and reviews of trade related CDs and books. Western Music (North America)
Western music is a form of country music composed by and about the people who settled and worked throughout the Western United States and Western Canada. Western music celebrates the lifestyle of the cowboy on the open ranges, Rocky Mountains, and prairies of Western North America. Directly related musically to old English, Irish, Scottish, and folk ballads, also the Mexican folk music of Northern Mexico and Southwestern United States influenced the development of this genre, particularly corrido, ranchera, New Mexico and Tejano. Western music shares similar roots with Appalachian music (also called ''country'' or ''hillbilly music''), which developed around the same time throughout Appalachia and the Appalachian Mountains. Coppell, Texas
Coppell ( ) is a city in the northwest corner of Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas. It is a suburb of Dallas and a bedroom community in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Its population was 42,983 at the 2020 census. A small area in the far northern portion of the city extends into neighboring Denton County. History The Coppell area was settled by German and French immigrants in the 1840s. Members of the Peters Colony also settled here in the 1840s. Originally named Gibbs Station, after Barnett Gibbs (one of Texas's first lieutenant governors), the town was renamed in 1892 for George Coppell, a wealthy English financier, who came to the United States in the 1880s, and was reportedly heavily involved with the final construction of the local railroad line. Western Music Association
The International Western Music Association was incorporated in 1989 to promote and preserve western music in its traditional, historical, and contemporary forms. The IWMA stages the International Western Music Festival every November during which it announces winners in categories including Traditional Western Duo/Group of the Year, Traditional Western Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Male and Female Performers of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, etc. It also publishes '' The Western Way'', a magazine dedicated to the promotion of western music, and sponsors the Western Music Hall of Fame. Cowboy Poetry
Cowboy poetry is a form of poetry that grew from a tradition of cowboys telling stories. Authorship Contrary to common belief, cowboy poetry does not actually have to be written by cowboys, though adherents would claim that authors should have some connection to the cowboy life such that they can write poetry with an "insider's perspective". One example of a popular "cowboy poem" written by a non-cowboy is "The Ride of Paul Venarez" by Eben E. Rexford, a 19th-Century freelance author. Don Cusic (born ) is an American author, songwriter and record producer who is best known as a historian of U.S. popular music. He is the author of 28 books, most of them related to country music; they include biographies of performers like Eddy Arnold, Roger Miller, Merle Haggard and Gene Autry. He is a special correspondent for ''Billboard'' magazine, a book reviewer for ''MusicRow'' magazine, and editor for trade magazines ''Record World'' and '' Cashbox ''. Cusic was a consultant for Ken Burns' documentary miniseries ''Country Music''.
