The Wee Trio
The Wee Trio is an American jazz band. History The Wee Trio is composed of three instrumentalists: James Westfall on vibraphone and marimba, Dan Loomis on acoustic bass, and Jared Schonig on drums. Their debut recording in 2008 was Capitol Diner, Vol. 1, which received international attention and was listed as one of the top 10 albums of the year by The San Francisco Chronicle, Boston’s Patriot Ledger and All About Jazz. The trio, which calls both Nashville and New York City home, has performed at such venues and festivals as The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Birdland, The Kennedy Center, The Rochester International Jazz Festival, Yoshi’s SF, The Green Mill, The Burlington Jazz Festival, Jazz At The Bistro, The Ottawa Jazz Festival, Le Poisson Rouge, and Snug Harbor. James Westfall where he attended the University of New Orleans. In New Orleans he studied under Terence Blanchard, Harold Battiste, Steve Masakowski and Ellis Marsalis Jr. Later he moved to Los Angeles, California where he was part of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. At present he lives in Nashville working as a studio musician.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (commonly called Jazz Fest or Jazzfest) is an annual celebration of local music and culture held at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jazz Fest attracts thousands of visitors to New Orleans each year. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation Inc., as it is officially named, was established in 1970 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (NPO). The Foundation is the original organizer of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell Oil Company, a corporate financial sponsor. Birdland (New York Jazz Club)
Birdland is a jazz club started in New York City on December 15, 1949. The original Birdland, which was located at 1678 Broadway, just north of West 52nd Street in Manhattan, was closed in 1965 due to increased rents, but it re-opened for one night in 1979. A revival began in 1986 with the opening of the second nightclub by the same name that is now located in Manhattan's Theater District, not far from the original nightclub's location. The current location is in the same building as the previous headquarters of ''The New York Observer''. Established in 2002, the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival Presented by M&T Bank takes place in June of each year, in Rochester, New York. Yoshi's (also known as Yoshi's Jazz Club and Yoshi's Oakland) is a nightclub located in Jack London Square in Oakland, California, United States. The venue originally opened in 1972 as a restaurant in Berkeley, later moving to Claremont Avenue in Oakland. In 1979, the restaurant expanded into a lounge/nightclub hosting local and national jazz musicians. The Green Mill Cocktail Lounge (or Green Mill Jazz Club) is an entertainment venue on Broadway in Uptown, Chicago. It is known for its jazz and poetry performances, along with its connections to Chicago mob history. History Originally named Pop Morse's Roadhouse, the business opened in 1907. (Le) Poisson Rouge (often referred to as LPR) is a music venue and multimedia art cabaret in New York City founded in 2008 by Justin Kantor and David Handler on the former site of the Village Gate at 158 Bleecker Street. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Nicholas Payton
Nicholas Payton (born September 26, 1973) is an American trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist. A Grammy Award winner, he is from New Orleans, Louisiana. He is also a prolific and provocative writer who comments on a multitude of subjects, including music, race, politics, and life in America. Biography The son of bassist and sousaphonist Walter Payton, he began playing the trumpet at the age of four and by age nine was sitting in with the Young Tuxedo Brass Band alongside his father. He began his professional career at ten years old as a member of James Andrews' All-Star Brass and was given his first steady gig by guitarist Danny Barker at The Famous Door on Bourbon Street. He enrolled at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and then at the University of New Orleans.
