The Weather Classroom
''The Weather Classroom'' is an educational program for children that aired on The Weather Channel from 1993 to 2007. It was part of the Cable in the Classroom initiative, and aired at a time when the show could be recorded for later showings in the classroom. Reruns aired until 2013. Program History ''The Weather Classroom'' has taken on many forms on TWC throughout the years. The program started in the early '90s on TWC and was hosted by various on-camera meteorologists who discussed various weather topics. In the early 2000s a new series was created and hosted by non-meteorologists. In 2006, repeats on the ''Forecast Earth'' series began to air as part of ''The Weather Classroom''. The Weather Channel (TWC) is an American pay television channel owned by Weather Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Allen Media Group. The channel's headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. Launched on May 2, 1982, the channel broadcasts weather forecasts and weather-related news and analysis, along with documentaries and entertainment programming related to weather. A sister network, Weatherscan, was a digital cable and satellite service that offered 24-hour automated local forecasts and radar imagery. Weatherscan was officially shut down on December 9, 2022. The Weather Channel also produces outsourced weathercasts, notably for CBS News and RFD-TV. The Weather Channel was a subsidiary of the Weather Company until the latter was bought by IBM in 2016. Cable In The Classroom
Cable in the Classroom was an American division of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association that assisted the cable television industry in providing educational content to schools. The organization was founded in 1989. A Canadian organization, also called "Cable in the Classroom" ("La câblo-éducation" in French), was founded in 1995, and held the same scope as the US organization. Cable stations broadcast educational television programs at specific times (usually early in the morning) commercial-free and notified Cable in the Classroom as to when the shows would air, which maintained a master list for educators to reference. This way, educators were able to record the programs for free and use them in school as learning tools for children. Copyrights were cleared so that educators could use the content of the listed programs as they wished for their syllabus and learning plans. Forecast Earth
Forecast Earth is the name for The Weather Channel's environmental initiatives. It also was the name of an environment news program that ran on TWC from 2006 to 2008. History of the brand The Forecast Earth brand was introduced in 2003 for special series. In 2004, The Weather Channel announced that it would be creating six more special programs under the Forecast Earth name at its April upfront presentation to advertisers. In conjunction with the 2008 launch of the channel's new studios, several environmentally friendly features were connected to the Forecast Earth brand on an online studio tour. In December 2007, The Weather Channel held a Forecast Earth Summit for 22 high school students. A second summit was planned for 2008, but was canceled after the entire Forecast Earth program was disbanded. The Eastern Time Zone (ET) is a time zone encompassing part or all of 23 states in the eastern part of the United States, parts of eastern Canada, the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico, Panama, Colombia, mainland Ecuador, Peru, and a small portion of westernmost Brazil in South America, along with certain Caribbean and Atlantic islands.
