The Warrior (1916 Film)
The Warrior (Italian: Maciste alpino) is a 1916 film directed by Luigi Romano Borgnetto and Luigi Maggi and starring Bartolomeo Pagano in the role of Maciste . Production This is one of the first films starring the character of Maciste, who Giovanni Pastrone created in 1914 Cabiria. It saw huge success in Italy and abroad and whose name is due to Gabriele D'Annunzio who thus created a neologism that is still in use today. The warrior is the best-known and critically praised film of the Maciste series. Luigi Maggi
Luigi Maggi (21 December 1867 – 22 August 1946) was an Italian actor and film director who worked prolifically during the silent era. Working for Ambrosio Film he co-directed the 1908 hit film '' The Last Days of Pompeii'', which launched the historical epic Epic films are a style of filmmaking with large-scale, sweeping scope, and spectacle. Bartolomeo Pagano
Bartolomeo Pagano (27 September 1878 – 24 June 1947) was an Italian motion picture actor. Before his cinema career, Pagano was a stevedore who worked at the port of Genoa. There, he was discovered and selected to play the role of Maciste, a muscular slave, in the silent movie classic ''Cabiria'' in 1914. As the originator of this role, he went on to play the character for the next 14 years in a series of sequels. Pagano became an international star, and legally changed his name to Maciste. In the 1920s he was one of the most well paid actors in Italy, receiving up to 600.000 lire a year. The actor retired from films in 1929 to marry and raise a family in his home town of Genoa. He died there, aged 68, and is buried on the family estate in Italy. Itala Film was an Italian film production company. Silent era It was founded during the silent era. In 1905, industrialists Carlo Rossi and William Remmert established a company in Turin, recruiting filmmakers from Pathé. Two years later, they were joined by Giovanni Pastrone who reorganised the company as Itala. Over the next decade, the company enjoyed enormous growth, aided by signing up Pathé's most popular comedian André Deed. Further development came with the company's production of historical epic films beginning with ''The Fall of Troy'', allowing the company to open a New York office to sell the films in the American market.
