''The Ward'' (titled onscreen as ''John Carpenter's The Ward'') is a 2010 American supernatural psychological horror film directed by John Carpenter and starring Amber Heard, Mamie Gummer, Danielle Panabaker, Laura-Leigh, Lyndsy Fonseca and Jared Harris. Set in 1966, the film chronicles a young woman who is institutionalized after setting fire to a house, and who finds herself haunted by the ghost of a former inmate at the psychiatric ward. As of 2022, this is Carpenter's most recent film as a director. The film was shot on location at the Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake, Washington. Plot In rural Oregon, at the Coos Bay Psychiatric Hospital in 1966, a young patient named Tammy is killed by an unseen force at night. Kristen (Amber Heard), a troubled young woman, sets fire to an abandoned farmhouse and is arrested. The Ward is a 2000 point and click adventure video game developed by Fragile Bits. It was first published in Croatia under the name Poslanik by LMI, followed by an international release by On-Deck Interactive in January 2001. Development and sales The game uses 3D pre-rendered character models over a static, often animated backgrounds. The developer released a demo, which could be found on the CD of the computer magazine Hacker. The development took around 2 years without a budget and the game sold in nearly 300,000 units. Synopsis The story follows the fictionalized version of events of the Apollo 19 mission from 1979. Two of the crew member are found dead, with the protagonist, David Walker, finding himself in an extraterrestrial laboratory. Throughout the story, the protagonist realizes he is meant to be the mythical Ward, in order to resolve the conflict between two alien races; the Greys and the Reptillians. ''Children's Ward'' (retitled ''The Ward'' from 1995 to 1998) is a British children's television drama series produced by Granada Television and broadcast on the ITV network as part of its ''Children's ITV'' strand on weekday afternoons. The programme was set – as the title suggests – in Ward B1, the children's ward of the fictitious ''South Park Hospital'' (known as Sparky's), and told the stories of the young patients and the staff present there. The Ward (formally St. John's Ward) was a neighbourhood in central Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Many new immigrants first settled in the neighbourhood; it was at the time widely considered a slum. It was bounded by College, Queen, and Yonge Streets and University Avenue, and was centred on the intersection of Terauley (now Bay) and Albert Streets.
