''The Wager'' is a 1998 short film, running approximately 19 minutes. The film was directed by Aaron Woodley, and it starred Peter Blais, Barclay Hope Barclay Hope (born February 25, 1958) is a Canadian actor. Lionel Pendergast on ''Sta ..., and Valerie Boyle. was the film's executive producer. Synopsis A dark and humorous suspense drama which begins late one night as Richard is entering his apartment. He encounters an odd man dressed in his underwear and holding a box. The stranger proposes a series of morbid wagers referring to what may be hiding within. Each one is more disturbing and profound than the previous, and all lead toward a life-or-death gamble and a startling, unexpected conclusion. Aaron Woodley
Aaron Woodley (born 1971) is a Canadian film director and screenwriter. Early life Woodley was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of costume designer Denise Cronenberg and nephew of filmmaker David Cronenberg. He studied animations at Art Gallery of Ontario and later graduate at York University. Career Woodley's 1998 short film ''The Wager (1998 film), The Wager'' won Short Film Award at Austin Film Festival. In 2003, he directed ''Rhinoceros Eyes'' in which Michael Pitt starred. A year later, he directed Lee Daniels-produced film ''Tennessee (film), Tennessee'' which starred singer and actress Mariah Carey. In 2015, ''Variety (magazine), Variety'' announced that Woodley would direct the animated film ''Spark (2016 film), Spark'' featuring the voices of Jessica Biel and Susan Sarandon. Denise Cronenberg
Denise Cronenberg (1 October 1938 – 22 May 2020) was a Canadian costume designer. Cronenberg was born in Toronto, Ontario and was the sister of film director David Cronenberg and the mother of filmmaker Aaron Woodley. She produced work for films such as '' Dawn of the Dead'' and ''The Incredible Hulk''. Cronenberg and her brother worked together on '' The Fly'', a 2008 operatic adaptation of the 1986 film of the same name. She died due to "complications from old age" in Burlington, Ontario in May 2020 at the age of 81. Short Film
A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". In the United States, short films were generally termed short subjects from the 1920s into the 1970s when confined to two 35 mm reels or less, and featurettes for a film of three or four reels. "Short" was an abbreviation for either term. The increasingly rare industry term "short subject" carries more of an assumption that the film is shown as part of a presentation along with a feature film.
