The Voyage (album)
''The Voyage'' is a 2005 album by Irish folk musician, Johnny Duhan containing his internationally famous modern Irish folk classic " The Voyage". The idea to write on the family theme grew organically out of Johnny's earlier excavations of family history in some of the songs on his '' Just Another Town'' album. Measuring the early struggles of his own marriage against his parents’ rocky relationship, he wrote a song called "Trying to Get the Balance Right", and this led on to reflections on the whole institution of marriage and child rearing. Over a six or seven-year period his thoughts on the subject crystallized into a series of songs that eventually became ''The Voyage'' album. Johnny Duhan
Johnny Duhan (born 30 March 1950) started his career as the 15-year-old frontman of the Ireland, Irish Beat music, beat group Granny's Intentions. After success in Limerick and Dublin, the band moved to London and was signed to the Deram Records record label. The band released several singles and one album, ''Honest Injun.'' However, the band disbanded before Duhan was twenty-one, and Duhan left the popular music industry to start writing folk songs, poetry, and prose. Just Another Town, To the Light, Flame (Johnny Duhan album), Flame, and The Voyage (song), The Voyage are some of the releases that represent his work. These align with the first four sections of his poetic autobiography, ''To The Light''. The Voyage (song)
"The Voyage" is a very famous modern Irish classic song by the Irish musician, singer-songwriter Johnny Duhan. Unsure of his own vocal capabilities, he offered it to the Irish singer Christy Moore who recorded a version in 1989 that became the definitive and most well-known version of the song. Johnny Duhan went on to record his own version for his similarly titled album '' The Voyage'' that was released much later in 2005. ''Just Another Town'' is an album by Irish folk singer Johnny Duhan, originally released 21 September 1992 in Ireland, re-released on CD on 31 March 2007. ''Just Another Town'' is a portrait of the city Duhan grew up in. It sings of the people and location that formed him. Its melody and poetry come from the homes, bars, dancehalls, chapels, gardens, prisons, factories, and the very streets of the town it celebrates. It is not a nostalgic look back in blinkered pleasure. The landscape is urban, gritty and hard, and the characters are flawed and damaged. DH Lawrence once described towns as “scabs” on the face of the earth before he attempted to flee back to some primitive idyll. Modern cities are indeed scabs on the face of the world, but the way Johnny sees it, scabs are healing skin formations in the process of transforming damaged tissue back into healthy flesh. Christy Moore
Christopher Andrew "Christy" Moore (born 7 May 1945) is an Irish folk singer, songwriter and guitarist. In addition to his significant success as an individual, he is one of the founding members of Planxty and Moving Hearts. His first album, ''Paddy'' ''on the Road'' was recorded with Dominic Behan in 1969. In 2007, he was named as Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. Early life Moore was born in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland and attended Newbridge College. His mother Nancy Moore was a Fine Gael election candidate. He was originally a bank employee who wanted to express himself using traditional music.
