The Voice From The Minaret
''The Voice from the Minaret'' is a 1923 American silent romantic drama film directed by Frank Lloyd and starring Norma Talmadge, Eugene O'Brien, and Winter Hall. The film is based on the play of the same name by Robert Smythe Hichens (London, Sep 1919). The film is considered lost. Plot Lady Adrienne Carlyle (Norma Talmadge) leaves Mumbai, where her tyrannical husband, lord Leslie Carlyle ( Edwin Stevens, is the governor, heading off to England. On board, Lady Adrienne meets Andrew Fabian ( Eugene O'Brien), who studies theology to be a priest. Andrew persuades Adrienn to join his pilgrimage to the sacred land. Soon they fall in love, but Adrienne has to return to her husbands when she learns about his weakened health. Later on, in England, Adrienne and Leslie meet with Andrew. Suspect Leslie hates Adrienne and Andrew and wants them to confess their love for each other. Shortly thereafter, Lord Carlyle suddenly dies, so Adrienne and Andrew may finally unite. Frank Lloyd
Frank William George Lloyd (2 February 1886 – 10 August 1960) was a British-born American film director, actor, scriptwriter, and producer. He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was its president from 1934 to 1935. Biography Lloyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother Jane was Scottish and his father Edmund was Welsh. Lloyd started his career as a singer and stage actor in London. He is Scotland's first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history, having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film (''The Divine Lady''), a part-talkie ('' Weary River'') and a full talkie ('' Drag''). He won for ''The Divine Lady''. Lillian Lawrence
Lillian Lawrence (February 17, 1868 – May 7, 1926) was an American theatre and silent film actress. Her daughter Ethel Grey Terry was also an actress. Biography Lawrence was born in either Alexandria, Virginia or Alexander, West Virginia but moved to San Francisco at the age of two. She made her stage debut there as a 13-year-old girl as a chess piece in the operetta ''The Royal Middy''. Following that, she sang opera for the California Theatre for three years. At age 20, she joined a touring company, followed by a role in '' The Two Orphans''. Afterwards, she joined a repertory theatre in Oakland. In 1882 at the age of 14, she gave birth to her daughter Ethel, but Lawrence remained unmarried. In 1892, she moved to New York City and then back to Dayton, Ohio the next year. Claire Du Brey (born Clara Violet Dubreyvich, August 31, 1892 – August 1, 1993) was an American actress. She appeared in more than 200 films between 1916 and 1959. Her name is sometimes rendered as Claire Du Bray or as Claire Dubrey. Early years Du Brey was born in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, to an ethnic Croat father from Dalmatia (who anglicized his name to Matthew Dubrey before his marriage), and an Irish-American mother, Lilly (née Henry), later Mrs. Richard Fugitt. Her parents married on November 9, 1891 in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho. She was raised Catholic and attended a convent school. Du Brey "had trained as a nurse".
