The Vicar Of Vejlby (1931 Film)
''Præsten i Vejlby'' (''The Vicar of Vejlby'') is a 1931 Danish film about a murder in a vicarage directed by George Schnéevoigt and based on a novel by Steen Steensen Blicher. Starring Henrik Malberg and Karin Nellemose it marked the debut of actor Aage Winther-Jørgensen. The film was a remake of the 1920 version by August Blom; and was remade again in 1972 by Claus Ørsted. One year earlier, George Schnéevoigt had made the first Danish sound film of feature length; however, the dialogue was spoken in Norwegian. ''Præsten i Vejlby'' was the first feature-length sound film with Danish dialogue. Although the public had seen short Danish "talkies" since 1923, and experienced foreign features with sound for two years, the Danish language film was unique enough to create a huge success and make the film very profitable. Præsten I Vejlby
''The Rector of Veilbye'' ( da, Præsten i Vejlbye), is a crime mystery written in 1829 by the Danish author Steen Steensen Blicher. The novella is based upon a true murder case from 1626 in the village of Vejlby near Grenå, Denmark, which Blicher knew partly from Erik Pontoppidan's Danish Church History (1741), and partly through oral tradition. Blicher's tragic tale has been adapted for the screen three times by Danish filmmakers. In 2006, ''The Rector of Veilbye'' was included in the Cultural Canon of Denmark by the Danish Ministry of Culture. The ministry noted that "the style illuminates elegiac pain and discomfort in an eerily intense drama, and the story is difficult to shake off." Eyvind Johan-Svendsen
Eyvind Johan-Svendsen (5 January 1896 – 10 October 1946) was a Danish stage and film actor. Biography He worked in Danish theatre between 1917 and 1939 and appeared at the Det Kongelige Teater (the Royal Danish Theatre) in Copenhagen from 1926 to 1939. He starred in his first film, the religious film ''Præsten i Vejlby'', in 1931. Eyvind Johan-Svendsen's father was the Norwegian composer and conductor Johan Svendsen, who was Principal Conductor at the Det Kongelige Teater from 1883 to 1908, and his mother was Juliette Haase. Gudrun Nissen
Gudrun ( ; non, Guðrún) or Kriemhild ( ; gmh, Kriemhilt) is the wife of Sigurd/Siegfried and a major figure in Germanic heroic legend and literature. She is believed to have her origins in Ildico, last wife of Attila the Hun, and two queens of the Merovingian dynasty, Brunhilda of Austrasia and Fredegund. In both the Continental (German) and Scandinavian traditions, Gudrun/Kriemhild is the sister of the Burgundian king Gunther/Gunnar and marries the hero Siegfried/Sigurd. Both traditions also feature a major rivalry between Gudrun and Brunhild, Gunther's wife, over their respective ranks. In both traditions, once Sigurd has been murdered, Gudrun is married to Etzel/Atli, the legendary analogue of Attila the Hun.
