''The Vanishing American'' is a 1925 American silent Western film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed through Paramount Pictures. The film was directed by George B. Seitz and starred Richard Dix and Lois Wilson, recently paired in several screen dramas by Paramount. The film is based on the 1925 novel ''The Vanishing American'' by Zane Grey. It was remade as a 1955 film starring Scott Brady and Audrey Totter. The story first appeared in November 1922 as a serial in ''Ladies' Home Journal''. Harper & Brothers planned the book's publication to coincide with the film's release but Christian missionaries feared public criticism. ''The Vanishing American'' is a 1955 American Western film directed by Joseph Kane and written by Alan Le May. It is based on the 1925 novel ''The Vanishing American'' by Zane Grey. The film stars Scott Brady, Audrey Totter, Forrest Tucker, Gene Lockhart, Jim Davis and John Dierkes. The film was released on November 17, 1955, by Republic Pictures. Plot Marion Warner inherits a ranch from an uncle. Stranded in the desert, she encounters Blandy, a white man raised by Navajos who believes her land actually belongs to the Indians. A trading post owner, Morgan, aided by partner Blucher and hired guns Glendon and Lord, has been stealing from the Navajos and kidnapping women, including Yashi, who is held prisoner until Marion arranges her escape. Bernard Siegel (actor)
Bernard Siegel (April 19, 1868 – July 9, 1940) was an Austro-Hungarian born American character actor, whose career spanned both the silent film era, as well as carrying over into the beginning of sound pictures. His career spanned over 25 years, during which time he performed in over 50 films. Life and career Siegel was born in the city of Lemberg (today known as Lviv, Ukraine), in the province of Galicia in the Austria-Hungarian Empire on April 19, 1868. His film career began with a small featured role in the 1913 silent film, ''The Third Degree'' (which would be remade in 1919, and again in 1926, the latter film being the first film directed by Michael Curtiz). Over the next 26 years he would appear in almost 70 films, most of those films taking place during the silent era. He would only act in thirteen sound films. Bert Woodruff
William Herbert "Bert" Woodruff (April 29, 1856 – June 14, 1934) was an American actor of the silent era. Woodruff was born in Peoria, Illinois, and was the son of Mrs. Hannah Woodruff. He performed on stage before he began acting on film, debuting in 1876 as part of the Woodruff and West song-and-dance act. His performances included blackface comedy and Irish specialties. In 1882, he became part of the Adelphi Theater stock company in Peoria, where he worked for seven years. In 1898, Woodruff moved into management, opening a vaudeville theater in Peoria and managing it until 1904. From there he went to Redondo Beach, California, where he opened the city's first theater for films. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1916 and 1931. Charles Crockett (December 29, 1870 – June 12, 1934) was an American character actor known for his roles in films such as ''Guilty Hands'', '' The Gingham Girl'', and ''The Princess from Hoboken''. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on December 29, 1870, Crockett appeared in stage productions before becoming a film actor. Shannon Day (born Sylvia Day; August 5, 1896 – February 24, 1977) was an American silent film actress who appeared in supporting parts in numerous productions. Day was born on August 5, 1896, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Her education was in New York City's public schools and in the Art Students League there. Day began performing on stage when she was a child. Billed as Sylvia Day, she appeared on Broadway in ''Ziegfeld Nine O'Clock Review'' (1919). Her film debut came in 1921 in Cecil B. DeMille's ''Forbidden Fruit''. When Day left acting in films, she began teaching drama in Manhattan. She died on February 24, 1977, in New York, aged 80. Malcolm McGregor (October 13, 1892 – April 29, 1945) was an American actor of the silent era. McGregor appeared in more than 50 films between 1922 and 1936. He was born in Newark, New Jersey and died in Hollywood, California. It was first published on February 16, 1883, and eventually became one of the leading women's magazines of the 20th century in the United States. In 1891, it was published in Philadelphia by the Curtis Publishing Company. In 1903, it was the first American magazine to reach one million subscribers.
