Charles Giblyn
Charles Giblyn (September 6, 1871 – March 14, 1934) was an American film director and actor of the silent era. He directed nearly 100 films between 1912 and 1927. He also appeared in 23 films between 1914 and 1934. He was one of the founders of the Motion Picture Directors Association. Beginning in 1914, Giblyn worked with the Universal Motion Picture Manufacturing Company. He founded Albion Productions, a film production company, in 1922. Giblyn was also the screenwriter for ''Scandal'' (1917). On Broadway, Giblyn acted in ''The Song of the Sword'' (1899), ''Wheels Within Wheels'' (1899), and ''The Ambassador'' (1900). Giblyn was born in Watertown, New York and died in Los Angeles, California. Dorothy Dalton
Dorothy Dalton (September 22, 1893 – April 13, 1972) was an American silent film actress and stage personality who worked her way from a stock company to a movie career. Beginning in 1910, Dalton was a player in stock companies in Chicago; Terre Haute, Indiana; and Holyoke, Massachusetts. She joined the Keith-Albee-Orpheum Corporation vaudeville circuits. By 1914 she was working in Hollywood. Career Born in Chicago, Dalton made her movie debut in 1914 in ''Pierre of the Plains'', co-starring Edgar Selwyn, followed by the lead role in ''Across the Pacific'' that same year. In 1915, she appeared with William S. Hart in ''The Disciple''. This production came before she left Triangle Film Corporation and was signed to Thomas Harper Ince Studios. While Ince meant to cast her in mature roles, she had preferred to play ingénues. Lawrence Dallin "Dal" Clawson (October 5, 1885 – July 18, 1937) was a cinematographer in the United States who founded the American Society of Cinematographers. Biography He was born around October 4, 1885, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Stanley Clawson and Mary Jones. His first known feature credits as a cinematographer are for director Lois Weber at Bosworth, Inc., and Universal in 1914–15. This was after graduating from the University of Utah as a mechanical engineer. He also worked for the American Film Company and Ince-Triangle-KayBee, where photographic superintendent and future director Irvin Willat would remember Clawson as “sort of like a news cameraman” who was not especially noted for his lighting style. Triangle Film Corporation (also known as Triangle Motion Picture Company) was a major American motion-picture studio, founded in July 1915 in Culver City, California and terminated 7 years later in 1922. History The studio was founded in July 1915 by Harry and Roy Aitken, two brothers from the Wisconsin farmlands who pioneered the studio system of Hollywood's Golden Age. Harry was also D. W. Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience.
