''The Unknown Guest'' (German: ''Der unbekannte Gast'') is a 1931 German comedy film directed by E.W. Emo and starring S.Z. Sakall, Lucie Englisch and Kurt Vespermann. It was shot at the Halensee Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Ernö Metzner. It was given an American release in 1935.Waldman Synopsis When her master and mistress are away, a chambermaid pretends to be the owner of the house where her father visits as he is unaware of her status as a servant. Max Glass
Max Glass (12 June 1881 – 18 July 1965) was an Austrian screenwriter, film director, and producer. Glass was born in Jaroslau, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, into a Jewish family, but later converted to Catholicism. He gained a PHD in Philosophy from the University of Vienna. Glass entered the German film industry as a writer, but soon became a producer. By the mid-1920s he rose to be head of production at Terra Film before breaking away to set up his own production company in 1928 Glass' lover the actress Ruth Werner appeared in a number of his films but was unable to marry him until he had secured a divorce from his first wife, Dr. Helene Münz (married 1908–1957), with whom he had two sons, Paul Glass (born 1910) and Georges Glass (born 19 October 1917, Vienna). Oskar Sima
Oskar Sima (31 July 1896 – 24 June 1969) was an Austrian actor who is best remembered for appearing in supporting roles in countless comedy films from the 1930s to the 1960s. Born in Hohenau an der March, Lower Austria, Sima attended high school in Vienna. After a brief tour in the army during World War I, he began acting in various theatrical productions in Berlin, Vienna, and other cities in Central Europe. He began his film career in 1921, and appeared in a number of German silent films early on. Sima was frequently cast as the comic villain whose machinations get everyone into trouble, although often his villainous stature was used to more chilling effect. In 1929, Sima married actress Lina Woiwode. The couple remained married until Sima's death. Along with Friedl Czepa, Fred Hennings and Leni Riefenstahl he was identified as being an active supporter of the Nazi Party.
