The Unknown DJ
Andre Manuel, a disc jockey and record producer called The Unknown DJ or DJ Unknown, was a pioneer in the Los Angeles area's 1980s music scene, moving from electro funk and electro rap to gangsta rap. Now a legend of West Coast rap, he worked with rapper Ice-T in the early 1980s, then with Alonzo "Grandmaster Lonzo" Williams, and with MC Eiht's group Compton's Most Wanted in the early 1990s. Music career Manuel started in the music industry through Alonzo Williams, a DJ and party promoter in the Los Angeles area. Since his start in 1974, Williams, working under his brand name Disco Construction, earned the title "Grandmaster Lonzo." In 1979, Lonzo took over The Eve After Dark nightclub, about a quarter mile outside of Compton. Lonzo mentored Manuel, and they began working together. World Class Wreckin' Cru
World Class Wreckin' Cru was an American electro music, electro group, during the 1980s in the Los Angeles area, that contributed to rap's development. Two of its members, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella, attained greater fame as members of N.W.A, which pioneered gangsta rap. A song by the Cru had also featured R&B singer Michel'le. Early career World Class Wreckin' Cru debuted in the nightclub Eve After Dark, owned by Alonzo Williams, an early West Coast DJ very popular in the Los Angeles area. In the 1970s, Williams had begun producing dance songs under the name Disco Construction, named after funk group Brass Construction. Death Row Records is an American record label that was founded in 1991 by The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey. Roger McBride (born December 14, 1968), better known by his stage name King T (formerly known as King Tee), is an American West Coast Hip hop rapper from Compton, California. Emerging as one of Compton's earliest hip hop artists, he was signed to Capitol Records, where he released his debut album '' Act a Fool'' in 1988 with the hit singles "Act a Fool," "Payback's A Mutha," "The Coolest," and "Bass” emix all of which were considered hip-hop classics. Russ Parr (born 1959 in California) is an American radio DJ, film director, writer, actor and television personality known for such television shows as '' Rock 'N' America''. Career Parr began as a Production Services Director at ABC TV. Russ was the morning DJ on KDAY doing imitations of Magic Johnson, Ronald Reagan and other celebrities. He also worked as a stand-up comic for eight years, performing his first show as an opening act for Joan Rivers in Santa Monica, California. Brownside is an American hip-hop group founded in 1993 by Eazy-E. "6 in the Mornin' is a song by American rapper Ice-T. Released in 1986 as the B-side of "Dog 'n the Wax (Ya Don't Quit-Part II)", the song is considered to be one of the defining tracks of the gangsta rap genre. It also appeared on Ice T's debut album ''Rhyme Pays'' in 1987. The song was produced by Compton's Most Wanted associate the Unknown DJ. "Midnight", from Ice T's 1991 album '' O.G. Original Gangster'', is a prequel of this song. "Midnight" ends with the lyric "looked at my watch, it was six in the morning", and "6 in the Mornin opens with the lyric "six in the morning, police at my door." A version of the song was later recorded by the Tennessee horrorcore group Three 6 Mafia on its '' Chapter 2: World Domination'' album, and was aptly renamed "3-6 in the Mornin and features occasional samples from the original.
