''The Toxic Avenger'' is an upcoming American black comedy superhero film written and directed by Macon Blair. The film serves as a reboot and "contemporary reimagining" of the 1984 film of the same name, and the fifth installment overall in ''The Toxic Avenger'' film series, and is produced by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, who also produced the previous films in the franchise. Macon Blair (born 1974) is an American actor, screenwriter, director, film producer, and comic book writer known for his roles in the films ''Blue Ruin'' and ''Green Room'', as well as his directorial debut ''I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore''. Life and career Blair was born in Alexandria, Virginia and began working with his childhood friend Jeremy Saulnier in 2007 on the film ''Murder Party''. David Yow (born August 2, 1960) is an American musician and actor born in Las Vegas, Nevada and best known as the vocalist for the noise rock bands Scratch Acid and the Jesus Lizard. ''The Toxic Avenger'' is a 2008 rock musical based on the 1984 film of the same name. The book of the musical was written by Joe DiPietro, its music by David Bryan, and both wrote the lyrics. It is a comical take on a number of themes, including superhero stories, pollution, disability, politics, and the idea that New Jersey is inferior to other places. Since its first showing in 2008, it has been performed around the world through at least 2017.
