''The Tourist'' is an Australian made-for-TV romantic drama film directed by Terry Bourke and starring Tony Bonner, Michael Pate, Chard Hayward, and Zoe Carides. It was also known as Sands of the Bedouin. Anthony Frederick Bonner (born 23 November 1943) is an Australian television, film and stage actor and singer. Bonner became famous in the 1960s children's television series '' Skippy the Bush Kangaroo'', later moving on to lead roles in the dramas ''Cop Shop'' and ''Skyways''. Early life Bonner was born in Manly, a northern beach suburb of Sydney. His grandfather, James Bonner, was a former Mayor of Manly and founding President of the Manly Life Saving Club. His father, Frederick Bonner, was a musical comedy actor at Her Majesty's Theatre, Sydney. After leaving school he started work for a company supplying mannequins and other equipment for window dressing. Michael Pate OAM (born Edward John Pate; 26 February 1920 – 1 September 2008) was an Australian actor, writer, director, and producer, who also worked in Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s. Biography Early life Pate was born in Drummoyne, New South Wales, and attended Fort Street High School. Initially interested in becoming a medical missionary, but unable to afford the university fees due to the Depression, he worked in Sydney before 1938, when he became a writer and broadcaster for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, collaborating with George Ivan Smith on ''Youth Speaks''. For the remainder of the 1930s, he worked primarily in radio drama. Chard Hayward, born Roy Hayward, (born 1949) credited also as Chard Heywood, is a Welsh-born Australian-American television actor, director and producer, he is best known for his long-running role of camp barman Dudley Butterfield in the 1970s television soap opera ''Number 96'', he had previously appeared in a small role as a hippie in earlier episodes. Since the early 90s he has been based in the US. Biography Early life Born as Roy Hayward in Swansea, Wales, he initially pursued a career in the military, and at 19 had become a commissioned as an officer in the engineers, but decided it was not for him.
