The Touch (2002 Film)
''The Touch'' () is a 2002 Hong Kong action/adventure martial arts film directed by ''Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon'' cinematographer Peter Pau and starring Michelle Yeoh, Ben Chaplin and Richard Roxburgh. It was produced by China Film Co-production Corporation, Han Entertainment, Mythical Films, Aruze, Pandasia Entertainment and Tianjan Studios. Apart from special effects sequences shot in sound stages, the film was shot on-location in Nepal and China. Some of the mountain ranges in which the film was shot were not open to filmmakers earlier. Gala Film Distribution handled the distribution in Hong Kong and Solar Pictures in the Philippines for a 2002 theatrical release. Miramax also bought the rights to the film in 2002, removing 20 minutes of footage for a 83-minute version for 2003 and 2004 US theatrical releases, and completed the special effects CGI scenes. ''The Touch'' is a historical novel by Colleen McCullough published in 2003. It is about the life of a Scotswoman, Elizabeth Drummond, who travels from her home in Kinross, Scotland to New South Wales in order to marry her wealthy cousin, Alexander Kinross. The story takes place over the latter half of the 19th century. Reception In the ''Historical Novels Review'', Andrea Connel called it, "a compelling new perspective on the romantic theme of the mail- order bride" but went on to say that it was cold and impersonal, ultimately not enjoying the book. ''Publishers Weekly'' wrote that the plot was complex, but the characters won sympathy through honor. ''Kirkus Reviews'' put it simply, "a colorful tale about colorful characters in colorful places and times." The Touch (Wilson Novel)
The Adversary Cycle is a series of seven novels written by American author F. Paul Wilson. While it was originally known as "The Nightworld Cycle" (this name is even printed in the front of some early editions of ''Nightworld''), John Clute, in his section on F. Paul Wilson's work in ''The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction'', kept referring to "the Adversary." The author liked that better and so renamed the cycle. Daniel Keyes
Daniel Keyes (August 9, 1927 – June 15, 2014) was an American writer who wrote the novel ''Flowers for Algernon''. Keyes was given the Author Emeritus honor by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 2000. Biography Early life and career Keyes was born in New York City, New York. His family was Jewish. He attended New York University briefly before joining the United States Maritime Service at 17, working as a ship's purser on oil tankers. Afterward he returned to New York and in 1950 received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Brooklyn College. A month after graduation, Keyes joined publisher Martin Goodman's magazine company, Magazine Management. He eventually became an editor of their pulp magazine ''Marvel Science Stories'' (cover-dated Nov. 1950 – May 1952) after editor Robert O. Julie Myerson
Julie Myerson (born Julie Susan Pike; 2 June 1960) is an English author and critic. As well as fiction and non-fiction books, she formerly wrote a column in ''The Guardian'' entitled "Living with Teenagers", based on her family experiences. She appeared regularly as a panellist on the arts programme ''Newsnight Review''. "The Touch" is the second single from the 1984 Kim Wilde album ''Teases & Dares'', released at the end of the year it did not match the success of her previous single. It was released as both a 7" and a 12" single.
