''The Time Has Come'' is an album by American psychedelic soul band the Chambers Brothers. Released by Columbia Records in 1967, it features their hit "Time Has Come Today". Critical reception The album was referred to as a "ground-breaking album" by the authors of ''Shining Star: Braving the Elements of Earth, Wind & Fire''. In a short review of the album, ''Music On Vinyl'' referred to it as a perfect blend of soul and garage. Commercial performance On December 14, 1968, at its 27th week on the ''Billboard'' chart, it peaked at no. 6. The Chambers Brothers are an American psychedelic soul band, best known for their eleven-minute 1967 psychedelic soul hit "Time Has Come Today". "In the Midnight Hour" is a song originally performed by Wilson Pickett in 1965 and released on his 1965 album of the same name, also appearing on the 1966 album ''The Exciting Wilson Pickett''. The song was composed by Pickett and Steve Cropper at the historic Lorraine Motel in Memphis, later (April 1968) the site of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Pickett's first hit on Atlantic Records, it reached number one on the R&B charts and peaked at number 21 on the pop charts. James Joseph Marshall (February 3, 1936 – March 24, 2010) was an American photographer and photojournalist who photographed musicians of the 1960s and 1970s. Earning the trust of his subjects, he had extended access to his subjects both on and off-stage. Marshall was the official photographer for the Beatles' final concert in San Francisco's Candlestick Park, and he was head-photographer at Woodstock. Early life Marshall was born in Chicago, Illinois to Assyrian parents from Iran. His family moved to San Francisco, California, when he was two years old, but soon after that, his father left Marshall and his mother. While still in high school, Marshall purchased his first camera and began documenting musicians and artists in San Francisco. Brian Edmund Peter Keenan (January 28, 1943 – October 5, 1985) was an American musician, best known as the drummer for the Chambers Brothers. Born in New York, he also lived in Conisbrough near Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, and Ireland as a child. Background Keenan was part of the Chambers Brothers from 1965 to 1971, and also played with the pre-"Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" Manfred Mann group in England. His own group was the house band at Ondine, the first discotheque in New York City. Career After playing briefly with Manfred Mann, Keenan returned to New York in the mid-1960s. "What the World Needs Now Is Love" is a 1965 popular song with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. First recorded and made popular by Jackie DeShannon, it was released on April 15, 1965, on the Imperial label after a release on sister label Liberty records the previous month was canceled. It peaked at number seven on the US Hot 100 in July of that year. In Canada, the song reached number one. Wilson Pickett (March 18, 1941 – January 19, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter. A major figure in the development of soul music, Pickett recorded over 50 songs which made the US R&B charts, many of which crossed over to the ''Billboard'' Hot 100.
